🔧 New to Salzburg and looking to build something?

The Pioniergarage is Salzburg's open makerspace, a hands-on workshop where anyone can turn an idea into a real, physical thing. Located in the Techno-Z in the Science City Itzling, it offers over 30 machines for working with fabric, wood, metal and plastic – from laser cutters and CNC routers to 3D printers, welding equipment and digital embroidery. Members have access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Whether you want to prototype a product idea, build something for your home, or just explore what's possible – this is the place. Free guided tours run every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 pm, so you can see the space and meet the team before committing to anything.

One more thing worth knowing: the Pioniergarage is part of an international network of more than 1,700 Fab Labs in over 50 countries. So if you've used a makerspace back home, you'll feel right at home here too.

☀️ Work is just one part of life in Salzburg. The other parts? That's what this event is about.

On 16 June, the Work in Salzburg – Welcome Center is hosting an Info-Café for Internationals on the topic of Leisure, Culture & Sport. If you've recently arrived in Salzburg – or are still finding your feet – this is a great opportunity to get a practical overview of everything the city has to offer beyond the office.

You'll discover the summer events and festivals shaping Salzburg in 2026, learn about the city's “Active City” (Bewegte Stadt) initiative with free sports programmes for all ages, and get concrete ideas for getting to know the city and its people better.

The event is held in German and English, free of charge, and open to all international professionals and their families.

🇦🇹 The Rot-Weiß-Rot (RWR) Card is Austria's residence and work permit for skilled professionals from non-EU countries who want to settle here long-term. It's based on a points system that takes into account your qualifications, work experience, language skills and age – and for most categories, no separate work permit is needed on top.

There are several categories, but the most relevant ones for skilled professionals are:

- Very highly qualified workers – for those with exceptional qualifications, even without a job offer to start

- Skilled workers in shortage occupations – IT, tech and healthcare are among the nationwide shortage occupations listed for 2026, meaning no labour market test is required

- Other key workers – if you have a concrete job offer and meet the points threshold

The process can feel complex, but that's exactly what the Work in Salzburg – Welcome Center is here for. Free, personal advice on the RWR Card, required documents, and every step of the application.

🌊 Salzburg isn't just a city. It's an entire province worth exploring.

Just an hour from the city, near St. Johann im Pongau, the Liechtensteinklamm gorge is one of the most spectacular natural sights in the Alps. At 4,000 metres, it's one of the longest gorges in the Alps, with vertical walls reaching up to 300 metres. The wooden walkways, illuminated tunnels, and the striking Helix spiral staircase make it an unforgettable experience for families, couples, and solo explorers alike. And when you live and work in the Salzburg region, this is just a regular weekend.

13 public holidays a year. Two of them in May alone. 🗓️

New to Austria? Here's something worth knowing: public holidays are generous here – and May is peak season for them.

This month you get:
👉 Labour Day – 1 May
👉 Ascension Day – 14 May
👉 Whit Monday – 25 May

Most businesses, banks and public offices are closed on these and other holidays. Enjoy the extra days off. You've earned them.

💐 Happy Mother's Day – whenever and however you celebrate it.

In Austria, Mother's Day falls on the second Sunday of May – this year that's 10 May. But depending on where you're from, your mum might already be expecting a call: in the UK, Mothering Sunday is celebrated in March; in Mexico, it's always 10 May; in many Arab countries it falls on 21 March, the first day of spring; and across much of Eastern Europe, mums are honoured on International Women's Day, 8 March.

Different dates, different time zones, different traditions – but the same feeling. 💙

⛷️ Even our robots know how to spend a weekend in Salzburg.

If you work in tech and you're looking for a place where your career and your quality of life can both hit peak performance – Salzburg is calling. World-class mountains, a thriving tech scene, and a city that actually wants you here.

And yes – you can still ski in May. The Kitzsteinhorn glacier in Kaprun, for example, keeps its slopes open well into spring, so the season isn't over until it's over. ❄️

The Work in Salzburg – Welcome Center helps international tech professionals make the move: visa support, recognition of qualifications, housing advice, and much more. All free of charge.

Ready to carve your own path? 🏔️
