Wings for Life is a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation with the mission to find a cure. http://www.wingsforlife.com

Worldwide, millions of people are dependent on a wheelchair after having sustained a spinal cord injury, most often as the result of a traffic accident or a fall. Wings for Life is a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation with the mission to find a cure for spinal cord injury. Since 2004, Wings for Life has funded life-changing research projects and clinical trials around the globe. The scientists work at institutions such as Harvard Medical School, Yale University or Charité Berlin to name just a few. While the cure is still to be found, steady progress has been made. 100% of all donations go straight to spinal cord research as all administrative costs are being covered.

This month, in honor of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, we’ve shared the incredible story of Brooke Johnson and Jason Biundo, who have both experienced the impact of spinal cord injury firsthand. With September coming to an end, we’d like to say thank you to these two legends for sharing their story with us, for their amazing work, and for spreading so much hope ♥️

Brooke became the first woman to skateboard across America, raising more than $50,000 for spinal cord research. She did so in honor of her stepdad, Roger, who passed away from the effects of a spinal cord injury. When Brooke visited Jason Biundo at a Wings for Life-funded lab earlier this year, their shared commitment to progress came to life. Jason became a spinal cord injury researcher at Harvard Medical School after sustaining a SCI in 2019.

Founded in 2004, Wings for Life has been supporting spinal cord research for more than two decades. Today marks 10 years since Wings for Life USA became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the United States. 🇺🇸

Since then, Americans have helped raise more than $45 million, funding 72 cutting-edge research projects across the United States, including three human clinical trials, with more on the way. 🔬

To mark this milestone, Wings for Life USA Board Member Aaron Baker reflects on what this progress means for people living with spinal cord injury and why the future feels different today than it did ten years ago.

„Being a researcher and someone with a spinal cord injury gives me an insight into both worlds, that not many people get to experience.“

In 2019, Jason Biundo’s life changed forever when he had an accident while rock climbing. Today he is a researcher who is working hard to improve not only his own life but also the lives of so many people affected by spinal cord injuries all over the world: „Spinal cord injury is not going to be solved without a team effort. It needs many individual people coming together to reach this bigger goal.“ 🔬♥️

Science News: Wings for Life unterstützt die klinische Testung des Antikörpers NG004 mit 7,6 Millionen Euro. Die Studie von NovaGo Therapeutics zur Nervenregeneration soll jetzt an 13 spezialisierten Zentren in Europa durchgeführt werden. 🔬
