🛡️September Update 🛡️
was a month of challenges, but also some significant wins for the VFAPU team.
As temperatures rise and the bush begins to thin, wildlife congregates around shrinking resources making this a particularly vulnerable time for animals and a busy period for anti-poaching.
Across 114 patrols, our team responded to multiple incursions and threats, recovered 69 snares, rescued a bushbuck caught in both a fence and an old snare, and sadly recorded the loss of wildlife to human interference.
But there were also important victories. Several arrests were made, including the capture of a suspected poacher the team had been working to apprehend for over a year. In another operation, a five-day ambush led to the arrest of a known snare-setter and the recovery of 56 small wire snares, along with evidence of previous kills.
Every arrest, every snare removed and every animal rescued matters. The threat remains, but so does the determination of our team.
September was tough. It was busy. But it showed once again what patience, persistence and dedicated rangers can achieve. 🦏
