At Painted Dog Conservation, safety and preparedness are essential across every department.

This week, members of staff are undertaking First Aid training as part of our continued commitment to creating a safe and responsive working environment. The training equips our team with critical emergency response skills, ensuring that staff are prepared to act quickly and effectively when situations arise.

Investing in First Aid training not only strengthens workplace safety, but also reinforces our responsibility towards the wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, and visitors. Through continuous learning and preparedness, we continue to build a safer and more resilient organisation for everyone.

Painted Dog Conservation is marking World Day for Safety and Health at Work alongside the nation and the global community.

While part of our team is in Gweru for the official commemorations — led by our Health and Safety Officer, Shepherd Phiri — the rest of the team at the office are observing the day locally.

At PDC, we’re committed to safe, healthy workspaces for everyone. This year’s theme, Vision Zero: Safety, Health and Wellbeing, aligns closely with how we operate every day

Painted Dog Conservation supported an educational art programme in collaboration with the Southern African Conservation Trust (SACT), engaging learners from Dopota Primary School and Sir Roy Welensky Primary School.

The initiative provided a platform for young learners to explore their creativity while developing an appreciation for wildlife and conservation. Through art, participants expressed their perspectives on animals and the natural environment, reinforcing the role of creative learning in shaping future conservation stewards.

This engagement highlights the power of art and creativity as tools for awareness, education, and meaningful connection to conservation.

Earth Day is a reminder that protecting our planet takes all of us 🌍

From communities growing sustainable livelihoods,
to children discovering the wild for the first time,
to rangers walking mile after mile to protect what remains…

Conservation is not just about wildlife.
It’s about people, partnerships, and the future we choose to build together.

Every action matters. Every life matters.

This is what Earth Day looks like for us. Happy .

A pattern found nowhere else in nature.

Each painted dog is uniquely marked, yet their survival depends not on individuality, but on unity.

It is this balance—distinct identity within a highly coordinated social structure—that underpins their success in the wild.

Understanding these dynamics is essential to ensuring the long-term survival of one of Africa’s most endangered predators.

In the field, readiness is essential.

Our anti-poaching rangers are trained to respond to any situation — including emergency first aid when it matters most.

This level of preparedness is critical to protecting painted dogs and all wildlife.

Throwback to the frontlines of conservation.

Executive Director Peter Blinston and Chief Tracker Jealous Mpofu in the field, confronting the realities of protecting painted dogs.

For over two decades, their commitment has helped safeguard one of Africa’s most endangered carnivores—through loss, challenge, and hard-won progress.

This is the work behind the impact.
