Happy New Week. This quote from Ama Ata Aidoo’s play ANOWA is giving us motivation for the week.

“The best way to sharpen a knife is not to whet one side of it only. And neither can you solve a riddle by considering only one end of it."

We are proud to celebrate Bertha V Kufa Bertha V Kufa on her appointment as the HER Voice Fund Ambassador for Zimbabwe at Y+Global.

Over the years, we have witnessed this Pada Pearl grow from an enthusiastic participant into a passionate and dedicated champion for the rights of Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) across various sectors. Bertha, who is also a board member of Pada Platform, continues to inspire on her journey, and this milestone is a true reflection of her commitment to advocacy.

We are proud to see her step into this role, representing Zimbabwe at both national and global levels, and we have no doubt that she will serve with excellence, integrity and purpose.

Congratulations Bertha, we celebrate you!!!!

At our last feminist gathering we had the pleasure of watching and listening to historian and archivist Joyce Jenje Makwenda as she presented her research on the history of Zimbabwean women leaders in politics.
The role that women have played in liberation movements across the world is often downplayed because of patriarchal systems. As we are celebrating our 46th Independence Day let us remember to learn the role women played in the fight for freedom. Also looking to the present and future generations of leaders.

We ended women’s month on a positive note as we held a intergenerational feminist leadership session in partnership with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Zimbabwe what we learnt from this gathering was there is a genuine desire for more spaces where women in leadership positions can share their experiences and lessons with the younger generations. Also how to map out a future for feminist leaders which takes into consideration the importance of the past. Thank you to all the young women who were a part of this belated international women’s day event

Something to think on as we continue to celebrate women’s month is how the entire structures of social media work against movements that young feminists are trying to build. Does their content get as much traction as other kinds of content or is it deliberately hushed down? Barriers to rights and justice might also be actively playing out in the online world.

there’s so much to say about this powerhouse of a pearl. We would like to congratulate Bridgetti Mambondiani on completing the first phase of an exchange working at Equal Education as a programs officer under the Office of the General Secretary. Bridgetti also had the pleasure of delivering the homecoming speech at the home coming ceremony held from the 15th to the 21st of February.
Over the years we have witnessed this Pada pearl display growth and achieve success on different fronts and this was no exception. We say to you Bridgetti upwards and onwards, we’re rooting for you! 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽

Ideally, the law that is supposed to protect women online is the Computer Misuse Act 2011, but it has instead been used to attack feminist dissenters.

Today we mark together with the rest of the world. In an age with increased use of artificial intelligence technology there is also an increase of abuse of that same technology. Deepfakes and AI generated images are being used to spread misinformation disinformation and sometimes ruin people’s lives. Life is increasingly playing out in online spaces so it is crucial to safeguard ourselves and others against the harms that can come from being online. You can be a good digital citizen and help curb by practicing safety and spreading awareness to those who don’t necessarily have the knowledge of how to be safe online.
