Plan International Zimbabwe Plan Zimbabwe is a child centered organisation, implementing programs designed to enable communities to improve the lives of the most marginalized children.

Plan was founded in 1937 by British journalist John Langdon-Davies and social worker Eric Muggeridgeduring the Spanish Civil War. Plan operates in 66 countries with child-centered community programs that address the causes and negative impact of poverty on children’s lives. In Zimbabwe Plan started operating in 1986 and is currently implementing programs in ten districts of Bulawayo, Chipinge, Chiredzi, Kwekwe,Mutasa,Mutare,Mutoko,Mwenezi and Tsholotsho.

This , we celebrate young people finding their way, building something of their own and creating space for others to do the same.

Their realities may be different. Their aspirations connect them.

Evelyn is staying in school, doing better in her studies, and dreaming of becoming a software engineer. đź’™

She lives 16 km from her school, and to be closer to her classes, she used to stay in a small room behind some shops. It was unsafe, noisy, and filled with constant fear, and she almost dropped out of school.

Today, a girls’ dormitory has given her a safe place to stay, access to food and water, and the chance to focus on her education.

Safe spaces like this help girls stay in school, avoid early marriage and teenage pregnancy and build brighter futures.

When girls are safe, they can learn, dream, and create their own futures.

Know Your Age Know Your Rights #12

Did you know a birth certificate can be a child's first line of defence against child marriage?

Under Zimbabwe's Births and Deaths Registration Act [Chapter 5:02], registering every child's birth isn't optional it's the law. Section 10 makes it compulsory, and Section 11 puts the responsibility on parents and caregivers to notify the Registrar.

Why does this matter for ending child marriage? Because a birth certificate proves a child's age and that proof is what protects them from being married. No certificate, no easy way to challenge an underage marriage.

Young people are growing food, incomes and brighter futures

In Chiredzi District, 35 young people are leading the Chehondo Youth Agrohub, where climate-smart agriculture is helping them improve food security, earn an income and build skills in entrepreneurship and leadership.

"This garden has given us practical farming skills, strengthened our teamwork and created opportunities to earn an income while giving back to our community," says Cynthia, the Agrohub Secretary.

Through the Sparking the Future of Youth Project, implemented by Plan International Zimbabwe in partnership with Divine Foundation Trust -DFT, these young leaders are showing that with the right opportunities, they can drive lasting change in their communities.

From selling sweets to building houses!

At just 10 years old, Nyaradzo had to leave school to help support her family by selling sweets. But she never gave up on her dream of learning.

Through Supporting Adolescent Girls’ Education ( ), a UK in Zimbabwe funded programme, Nyaradzo returned to learning, gained confidence and developed literacy and numeracy skills. She later trained in construction a field many consider to be for men and built skills in bricklaying and plastering.

Today, Nyaradzo is using her skills to create opportunities, support her family and build a brighter future.

This World Youth Skills Day, we celebrate young people who prove that with the right skills and opportunities, they can turn challenges into possibilities.

Skills open doors. Young people build the future.
