Patsimeredu commemorated day of the African Child in the heart of Dzivarasekwa
at Dzikwa Trust a community based organization in Harare that provides education, food, healthcare and empowerment programs to vulnerable children and youth.The commemorations were held in partnership with ECOZI, Shamwari YeMwanasikana and Dzikwa Trust, bringing together children and young people to celebrate their rights and voices.Children showcased their talents through traditional dance, poetry, and speeches, before the day concluded with lively sporting activities and African games such as Nhodo and Pada.In their speeches, the children emphasized the importance of access to safe water and WASH services, underscoring these as fundamental rights that must be protected and fulfilled.

Day of the African Child Solidarity Message
Today, we join the world in commemorating the Day of the African Child a reminder of the resilience, dreams, and rights of every child across Africa. This year’s theme “Ensuring universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene for every child in Africa” reminds us that safe water, sanitation and hygiene are not luxuries they are fundamental rights that safeguard children’s health, dignity and future.
At Patsimeredu Edutainment Trust, we harness the power of theatre and performing arts to tell stories that reflect children’s realities, amplify their voices and inspire communities to take action. Through drama, dance and music we shine a spotlight on the urgent need for clean water and safe sanitation reminding society that children cannot thrive without these basic necessities. Unsafe water and poor sanitation continue to claim young lives daily, and we must act with urgency.
We call upon:
Government to prioritize investment in child-friendly water and sanitation infrastructure.
Local councils to ensure communities have safe, accessible facilities for every child.
Civil society, private sector and international partners to collaborate in protecting children’s rights and ensuring no child is left behind.
We reaffirm our commitment to building an Africa where every child can grow, learn and dream without fear of thirst, disease or indignity. Together, let us transform this theme into action and ensure that every African child enjoys the right to clean water, sanitation and hygiene.
