The Falling Walls Lab is an inspiring global competition rooted in the spirit of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The goal is simple yet profound: to ask, "Which walls will fall next in science and society?"

This challenge invites brilliant minds—from students to professionals—to pitch a complex, breakthrough idea to a jury of top leaders in science, industry, and policy. The format demands clarity and impact: you have just 3 minutes and can use only 3 slides. In Zimbabwe, we are looking at innovations that directly tackle the walls holding back our nation's progress, focusing on critical areas like energy poverty, food security through climate-smart agriculture, healthcare access in underserved areas, quality education that bridges the digital divide and so many other social problems.

What’s your biggest "Breaking the Wall of..." challenge in your industry or community in Zimbabwe?

Meet Kelvin Carrington Tichana 🤖, from Zimbabwe to Ghana to Arizona, an electrical engineer shattering the myth that advanced technology belongs only to wealthy communities. This Ashesi University graduate made waves by developing M.I.S.C.H.I.E.F (Modular Intelligent System for Community Home/Clinic Integrated Efficiency Functions) – a revolutionary low-cost smart home and clinic assistant designed specifically for underserved areas.
His work represents more than technical innovation – it’s a radical reimagining of who deserves smart living solutions💻⚡.
Kelvin believes that Grandma in rural Zimbabwe deserves smart home tech just as much as some tech bro in Palo Alto😉.
