Next week in Zanzibar, Tanzania, MEFMI's Business Development Unit is delivering the Corporate Governance for Boards and Management Workshop from 24 to 28 August 2026.

The programme equips senior leaders with practical tools and internationally recognised good practices across board structures, enterprise risk management, ESG, financial oversight, ethics, stakeholder engagement, succession planning, cybersecurity and AI governance.

MEFMI Governors Forum 2026 | Meet the MEFMI Team

Behind every high-level Forum is a team working to ensure the programme, discussions and outcomes come together seamlessly.

For this Thursday’s MEFMI Governors Forum 2026, convened under the theme Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics for Macroeconomic and Financial Policy, we are pleased to introduce the MEFMI team supporting the Forum.

🔹 Dr Louis A. Kasekende
Executive Director, MEFMI | Opening Speaker & Session Moderator
Dr Kasekende will deliver the Forum’s opening remarks, setting the context for the day’s discussions, and will later moderate Session Two, guiding a high-level conversation on data, AI and macroeconomic policy in a time of uncertainty.

🔹 Ms Zinhle Mkhari
Public Relations Manager, MEFMI | Event Director
Ms Mkhari will serve as Event Director, overseeing programme flow, coordination and participant engagement throughout the Forum.

🔹 Mr Senei Molapo
Programme Manager, Macroeconomic Management Programme | Rapporteur
Mr Molapo will serve as Rapporteur, capturing and synthesising the Forum’s key discussions, insights and emerging policy considerations.

🔹 Mr Jacob Mukamba
Director, Finance and Administration, MEFMI | Moderator
Mr Mukamba will moderate the final segment of the Forum, guiding the transition to the Vote of Thanks and conclusion of the programme.

The Forum is convened by invitation only, for Governors and senior policymaker from MEFMI member countries, alongside distinguished experts and strategic partners.

The Forum provides a platform for candid regional exchange on emerging debt challenges, evolving policy frameworks and practical solutions that can support agile, transparent and sustainable sovereign debt strategies.

We are pleased to introduce the distinguished speakers joining us this Thursday for the MEFMI Governors Forum 2026, convened under the theme:

Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics for Macroeconomic and Financial Policy

🔹 Dr Vera Songwe
Chair and Founder, Liquidity and Sustainability Facility
Dr Songwe will lead a timely discussion on “The Data You Control: AI and Macroeconomic Policy in a Time of Uncertainty,” bringing her extensive experience in economic policy, development finance and global economic governance to the conversation.

🔹 Ms Shavani Naidoo
Divisional Head, Data Management and Analytics, Financial Stability Department, South African Reserve Bank
Ms Naidoo will share a central bank practitioner’s perspective on AI and Data Analytics for Policy Design and Risk Management, with a focus on how data-driven tools can support stronger policy and risk oversight.

🔹 Mr Roberts Grava
Chief Executive Officer, Crown Agents Investment Management
Mr Grava will explore Artificial Intelligence in Reserves Management and Business Efficiency, bringing a practical perspective on how AI and data analytics are being applied in investment management and institutional decision-making.

This month, we officially introduce two new team members at MEFMI.

Mr. Obiaju L. Chike joins the Financial Sector Management Programme as Programme Assistant. He supports programme communications, documentation, logistics, stakeholder engagement and planning, drawing on experience in project administration, client engagement, operations and business development support.

Mr. Stephen Munyaradzi Washaya joins MEFMI as Receptionist and serves as a key first point of contact for visitors and stakeholders. He brings more than five years of experience in administration, records management, programme coordination, procurement support and logistics.

Please join us in welcoming Obiaju and Stephen to the MEFMI team. We look forward to the contribution they will make to the Institute's work across the region!

Artificial intelligence can process more data, identify patterns faster and strengthen forecasting. But what does responsible adoption look like for central banks?

On 20 August 2026, MEFMI will convene Central Bank Governors from its member countries, alongside selected technical and financial cooperating partners, for the virtual 2026 MEFMI Governors' Forum.

Held under the theme "Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics for Macroeconomic and Financial Policy," the Forum will explore practical applications in policy analysis, economic forecasting, risk assessment, operational efficiency and institutional decision-making.

Discussions will also consider data governance, institutional readiness, and the safeguards required for responsible AI adoption.

From 19 to 21 August 2026, MEFMI will convene the Heads of Debt Management Forum at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, under the theme:

"Building Resilience through Innovation in Public Debt Management in Uncertain Times."

The Forum will bring together Heads of Debt Management Offices to exchange experiences and explore practical approaches to rising borrowing costs, refinancing pressures, liquidity challenges, debt transparency and long-term sustainability.

Participants will also consider how adaptive policies, innovative financing approaches and stronger institutional capacity can support resilient and sustainable sovereign debt strategies.
