We are currently attending the ongoing YCA4SOTRA (Youth Collective Action for Social Transformation Alliance) National Youth Indaba in Harare represented by our Programs team Abel Shayamano and Emjgildah Chirigo 🇿🇼

This impactful gathering brings together the Zimbabwe Youth Council , key development partners, 40 youth-led CSOs, and duty bearers from all 10 provinces. Together, we are engaging in vital reflections and strategy sessions on how to strengthen youth participation in governance and decision-making processes across the nation.

We recognize this Indaba as a significant milestone in ensuring that young people occupy their rightful place in shaping national development, driving policy, and leading sustainable change.

As Young Achievers , we remain committed to amplifying youth voices and fostering collaborative action for social transformation.

As the 2-day YCA4SoTra project, Provincial Indaba in Mutare comes to a close last week, our team leader Bineloge B Nhembo and fellow emerging youth leaders consolidated a powerful, forward-thinking roadmap for youth-led organizations in Manicaland. To drive true social transformation, we walked away with these critical Day 2 Action Points:

​📈 Strategic alignment & governance.
​Align with National Strategy: Actively adopt and integrate the government's "Whole-of-government" approach, leveraging available opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national development.

​Get organized & registered: Ensure all youth associations and organizations are fully registered and cleared to operate in their implementation areas. This guarantees easy service accessibility, official recognition, and safe operating environments.

​Navigate youth structures: Map and thoroughly familiarize ourselves with existing institutional and youth structures to streamline service delivery and improve institutional access.

​Cascade information: Commit to passing down valuable insights and knowledge gained from high-level stakeholders directly to our grassroots associates and members.

​💡 Evidence-based advocacy & collaboration.
​Adopt evidence-based reporting: Embrace a deep understanding of territorial integrity to ensure CSOs report and document issues from an objective, well-informed perspective.

​Enhance strategic advocacy: Strengthen lobbying efforts by ensuring all campaigns are strictly evidence-based, while strategically engaging relevant line ministries to maximize impact.

​Foster CSO collaboration: Cultivate inter-organizational learning and recognize our collective responsibility to unite, share best practices, and nurture the evolving landscape of youth work.

​🌍 Inclusion & Economic Empowerment
​Promote financial inclusion: Encourage and actively support young women to unlock economic empowerment through accessible financial assistance.

​Champion marginalized youth: Advocate fiercely for the inclusion and meaningful participation of marginalized groups within policy-making processes—their integration is vital to overall youth empowerment.

​Leverage government frameworks: Thoroughly familiarize our teams with youth-oriented pillars and the national empowerment strategy initiated by the Government of Zimbabwe to strategically capitalize on them.

📍 Happening Now: Manicaland Provincial Youth Indaba | Mutare

We are excited to announce that Young Achievers is currently participating in the 2-day Provincial Indaba under the Youth Collective Action for Social Transformation (YCA4SoTra) Project in Mutare, represented by our Team Leader Bineloge B Nhembo.

We have joined a dynamic cohort of emerging leaders from various youth-led organizations across Manicaland province. The Indaba has also brought together key provincial stakeholders, government ministries, and parastatals to foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration.

🔍 Day 1 Highlights & Key takeaways:
Coordination & Compliance: A major focus of Day 1 was ensuring that youth-led organizations are fully compliant and coordinated with government ministries and the Zimbabwe Youth Council (ZYC) so that we do not operate in isolation.

Policy Awareness for Evidence-based advocacy: Moving forward, young leaders must align with key policy frameworks shaping our future, including the Youth Policy, the Empowerment Strategy, and

Active Participation: Stakeholders heavily emphasized the need for meaningful and active inclusion of young people in decision-making processes, starting from the grassroots/local level right up to the national stage.

We are thrilled to bring the grassroots realities of our community into these vital policy discussions, ensuring that rural youth are not left behind in the national development agenda!

Empowering Youth Voices on SRHR in Mhakwe Community | 27 June 2026

This past Saturday, under the project, we hosted an impactful and dynamic youth dialogue focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) with the vibrant young people of the Mhakwe community.

The dialogue was structured around interactive group work designed to break down barriers, champion rights, and foster meaningful youth participation in health governance.

Key Objectives of the Dialogue;
As part of our commitment to youth-led advocacy and social inclusion under the ACTIVE project, the session was driven by three core objectives:
Promoting rights and responsibilities: Guiding young people to collectively identify and understand five critical SRHR rights alongside five corresponding responsibilities.
Identifying barriers & co-creating solutions: Providing a safe space for youth to isolate the unique socio-cultural and structural barriers affecting them locally and propose actionable, community-led solutions.
Enhancing decision-making power: Exploring strategic ways young people can participate more effectively and meaningfully in SRHR decision-making processes.

Expected Outcomes;
By unpacking the critical plenary questions and group focus areas, we are targeting the following long-term outcomes:
1. Informed & responsible action: A youth demographic that is not only aware of their reproductive health rights but is also empowered to educate peers and share ideas respectfully within the community.
2. Localized solution mapping: A clear, youth-driven roadmap addressing the most common community barriers to accessing essential health services.
3. Strengthened youth governance: Increased confidence and pathways for young leaders to actively engage with local stakeholders and school health programs, ensuring their voices shape reproductive health policies.

Youth take charge: Building climate & disaster resilience in Zimbabwe | 22 June 2026

We are thrilled to share that we successfully participated in the 3rd Zimbabwe Youth Symposium on Disaster Risk Reduction (ZYS-DRR) held recently in Harare represented by our Team Leader Bineloge B Nhembo Bineloge Nhembo!

Operating under the powerful theme, "From Risk to Resilience: Reclaiming youth agency in disaster risk management," the milestone event brought together young leaders , civil society organizations, youth-led organizations and key government officials. Organized by young people, for young people, the symposium served as a critical platform to challenge unequal systems and advocate for just, decolonial, and inclusive disaster risk governance.

High-Level Policy Commitments & Accountability
The symposium secured vital policy backing from key state ministries, strongly reinforcing our ongoing advocacy for rural youth inclusion:

Eng. Benjamin Kabikira (Hon. Deputy Minister of Local Government & Public Works) affirmed that young people are indispensable partners, not just beneficiaries in national DRR governance.

Lilian Matsika Takaendesa (Chief Director, Ministry of Women Affairs) highlighted the need to support women and youth as leaders, noting how climate crises deepen structural inequalities and gender-based violence.

Shingirai Mzanenhamo (Ministry of Mines) emphasized that youth must lead environmental monitoring and responsible mining oversight.

Dr. Selina Pasirayi (Country Director, ActionAid Zimbabwe) re-emphasized that a robust, inclusive Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Bill is the ultimate foundation for national accountability and protection.

Shifting Policy from Paper to Practice:
A major highlight was the presentation of community-rooted, evidence-based strategies by 10 brilliant youth researchers. Their work proved that rural communities are hubs of innovation and spanning hybrid early warning systems, digital forecasting, and gender-differentiated adaptation.

Moving forward, we are fully committed to championing the implementation of the core outcomes consolidated at the symposium:
1.The Final Youth Position Paper: A comprehensive framework on extractives governance and gender-responsive DRR to be submitted to parliamentary portfolio committees.
2. The Research Compendium: A localized collection of youth-led papers to guide policymakers and academia.
3. Decentralized Youth Governance: Pushing for the immediate integration of the National Youth Desk on DRR into provincial structures to improve Sendai Monitor reporting.

We remain dedicated to ensuring that rural youth are at the forefront of policy, action, and sustainable development.

The 3rd Zimbabwe Youth Symposium on DRR was officially opened by Hon Deputy Minister. HON. ENG KABIKIRA

In his remarks he highlighted a most significant development within Zimbabwe's Disaster Risk Management sector which is the repeal of the Civil Protection Act, marking an important shift in the country's approach to disaster risk governance.
