Restless Development Zambia

Restless Development Zambia Restless Development is the global leader in youth-led development, with over 10 years of successful work in Zambia. Restless Development works in 11 countries.

Restless Development Zambia with a 5 year Memorandum of Understanding works in direct partnership with the Ministry of Education, implementing best practice youth models of development. Our latest model was included in the Bank of Zambia’s National Financial Education Strategy for Zambia, and also cited as a good practice model in National Assembly Report of Committee on Labour, Youth and Sports;

“Your Committee observes that the approach by the Restless Development Programme was unique in that it used the youths to work with fellow youths. The active participation of youths in the welfare of others was very encouraging and should be emulated by other organisations. Your Committee recommends that there should be more interaction between the youths and the leadership (traditional and political).” National Assembly Report of the Committee on Labour, Youth and Sport (adopted by the House on 22nd June 2012. We are RESTLESS DEVELOPMENT - The youth-led development agency. We are RESTLESS because, the problems of the world persist and we want to resolve them. Restless Development, a UK based Charity is the leader in the mobilisation of young people (and through the youth populations at scale) focused on their leadership in global development. Our strength comes from being led by young people and young professionals, from the boardroom right through to the field.
• Almost one in five persons in the world is aged between 15 and 24, the majority living in developing countries
• 64% of all Zambians, and 78% of rural Zambians, live below the poverty line, with little change over the last decade.
• More than 70 per cent of the Zambian population are young people
And, this huge cohort is most affected by the persistent problems facing the world, yet, frequently overlooked as being the ones to help work these issues out. We believe that young people are the solution. And we are here to channel the indisputably positive power of young people in order to bring about real progress. Our Goals Are

1. A VOICE
A nation where young people are active citizens, where institutions are accessible and responsive to young people, and where young people can influence those with power.

2. A LIVING
A nation where young people can drive sustainable economies, where businesses and governments invest in and learn from young people’s enterprise, and where young people achieve a decent, sustainable living

3. LEADERSHIP
A nation where young people build resilient and sustainable communities, where the agency of young people and communities is at the heart of both preventing and solving arising challenges and emergencies.

4. SEXUAL RIGHTS
A nation where young people realise sexual and reproductive rights for all, where policies, attitudes and services advance people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights, helping to end AIDS and enabling young men and women to be free from discrimination.

Traditional leaders play an important role in adopting and sustaining progressive community practices. To ensure their active involvement in community development and behavioural change, we held a Chiefs Engagement Meeting in Central Province through the UNESCO-supported O3 Project.

This meeting was one of the ways we are building ongoing support and continuity for the lessons and skills taught to learners through the Ministry of Education Life Skills and Health Education Framework in school. We have been collaborating with the Ministries of Education, Health, and Local Government to strengthen coordination, encourage community ownership, and develop practical solutions to address challenges faced by adolescents and young people, such as early and unintended pregnancies, gender-based violence, school dropouts, and harmful cultural practices in the communities the learners come from.

Our recent engagement concluded with resolutions, including commitments by traditional leaders to strengthen chiefdom by-laws that promote school re-entry for pregnant girls, support safe spaces for adolescents, and foster greater collaboration with schools and health facilities within their chiefdoms.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Malcolm Moffat College of Education, we recently conducted a comprehensive Life Skills and Health Education (LSHE) orientation for some District Education Board Secretaries in Central Province.

This important initiative builds on the successful training delivered in April 2026 to headteachers and teachers from 160 schools, further strengthening our collective efforts to improve the sexual and reproductive health, gender, and education outcomes for learners.

The orientation brought together Provincial Education officials and District Education Board Secretaries from Mkushi, Shibuyunji, Luano, Chitambo, and Chibombo districts, enhancing their understanding of LSHE, its integration into curricular subjects, and its inclusion in school and teacher evaluations.

The sessions focused on adolescent SRHR, prevention of early unintended pregnancies, referral pathways between schools and health facilities, and the creation of supportive learning environments. The meeting also encouraged knowledge sharing, best practices, and strengthened collaboration between the Ministry of Education and other ministries, especially the Ministry of Health.

As schools reopen, education administrators from the provincial to the school level are well prepared to implement LSHE activities, support teachers, and promote life skills, sexual and reproductive health knowledge, gender equality, and improved educational outcomes across the districts. Together, we are fostering a brighter, healthier future for Zambia’s adolescents and youth.
