💜 A CALL FOR MUTUAL RESPECT, UNITY AND PROPER COORDINATION AMONG NPOs AND NGOs 💜
A MESSAGE FROM GIVE LIGHT FOUNDATION NPC
I believe it is important to address a concerning matter that has occurred on numerous occasions in the past, particularly during community marches and GBVF awareness initiatives.
We cannot continue disrespecting one another's efforts while speaking about unity, collaboration and partnerships.
The peaceful marches organised by Give Light Foundation NPC, including the march held on Friday, 30 October 2026, required extensive planning, coordination, resources and dedication.
Give Light Foundation NPC was responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions, coordinating with SAPS and the NPA, preparing and arranging the handover of the memorandum, designing and distributing posters, mobilising communities and engaging relevant stakeholders.
These arrangements did not happen overnight. They required time, commitment and hard work.
Most importantly, the family gave Give Light Foundation NPC permission to assist and support them throughout this difficult journey. We honour that responsibility and remain committed to walking alongside them from beginning to end. ❤️
What is disappointing is when certain organisations arrive on the morning of an already organised march with their own flags, banners and memorandums, without prior communication or coordination with the organisers.
This has happened on numerous occasions, and I sincerely believe we need to do better as organisations.
Why not reach out beforehand and say: "We see the work you are doing. How can we assist? Can we collaborate and contribute?"
That is what genuine partnership and solidarity should look like!
This is not about recognition or ownership of the fight against GBVF. Every organisation has the right to advocate for justice. However, we must respect one another's work, follow the correct processes and communicate before introducing separate arrangements.
As NGOs and NPOs, we should lead by example. We cannot advocate for dignity, respect and accountability while failing to practise those same values among ourselves.
Above all, a grieving family's pain should never become an opportunity for organisational competition or publicity.
Give Light Foundation NPC remains committed to supporting families, advocating for justice and assisting survivors long after the marches have ended.
WE DO NOT SHOW UP ONLY FOR THE MARCH. WE SHOW UP FOR THE FAMILY AND THE JOURNEY THEY HAVE TO WALK💜
To my fellow organisations, let us work together, respect the groundwork already completed and build genuine partnerships.
There is enough work for all of us in the fight against GBVF. Collaboration should bring us together, not divide us.
