Implementing Partner of National Vangasali ECD Registration Campaign

Impande South Africa, (previously Network Action Group) has been in existence since the year 2000. Through her work dealing with victims of Trauma throughout UGU district, Sylvia Mdluli of the National Peace Accord Trust saw the need of a network for rural Community Based Organisations. After consulting with the other major role players in UGU district the Network Action Group was formed

This Youth Day, we honour the courage and sacrifice of the young people of 1976 who fought for dignity, equality, and access to education.

Their fight changed South Africa forever.

But the work of creating equal opportunities for every child is still not finished.

At Impande, we believe that strong futures begin in early childhood. When children have access to safe learning environments, supportive practitioners, nutrition and care, and quality early learning opportunities, they are better equipped to grow into confident, capable young people in the future.

Happy !

“Attending Learning Groups every month has deepened our understanding not only of how children grow but also of our contributing role in their development.

We are living in a new era indeed. We are no longer child minders, but we’re ECD practitioners. We are now able to see endless opportunities for teaching and learning everywhere around us, even from playing a mere skipping rope game.

We’re able to incorporate maths and language skills in addition to physical development. Impande has helped us grow a lot.” – Khanyisile Mdladla, Ubuhlebethu Pre-School (uMzimkhulu, Harry Gwala, KZN)

That shift changes everything.

Through Learning Groups, practitioners build the skills, confidence, and insight to support children’s development in meaningful ways, turning everyday moments into opportunities for learning, play, and growth.

Lasting change happens when the whole system is strengthened.

Our work strengthens entire ECD ecosystems:

✔️ Better quality early learning programmes
✔️ Stronger systems within community centres
✔️ Daily nutrition for 22,000+ children
✔️ Peer learning and mentoring networks

Together, these elements create environments where children are not only prepared for school, but supported in every aspect of their development.

600+ jobs. Hundreds of families supported.

As ECD centres transition into formal subsidy funding, they unlock stable, long-term employment, primarily for women working in community-based care and education.

And behind every number is a story:

“I had been running the ECD centre for years without truly knowing how to teach…SEF not only improved teaching and learning in my preschool and strengthened the administration of the Centre, but it also transformed my family life.

Through SEF, I was able to send my child to the Durban University of Technology… suddenly, I could provide for my kids, and I gained confidence I never had before.” — Bulelwa Zoloshe, SEF graduate and ECD practitioner

This is the ripple effect of investing in early childhood development: stronger households, stronger communities, stronger futures.

We’ve supported more than 300 ECD centres in their transition into government subsidy systems over the last two years..

This means:

✔️ More stable, reliable operations
✔️ Access to around R222,000 per year, per centre
✔️ Over R66 million in annual public funding flowing into community ECD

As a result, these centres can provide consistent care, quality learning, and the support young children need to thrive.

Every year, over 1,000 ECD practitioners are supported by stipends from Social Employment Fund

Here’s how many ECD practitioners have received SEF stipends through Impande over the years

2022/23: 1,001
2023/24; 1,153
2024/25: 1,007
2025/26: 1,035

Importantly, participants stay in the programme for three years so that they have more time to grow, learn, and strengthen their centres.

Strong foundations don’t happen by chance.

Impande supports informal and unfunded ECD centres in underserved communities, helping them along their journey to formalisation.

Initiatives include:

✔️ Monthly income support through Social Employment Fund
✔️ Learning materials and nutrition
✔️ Ongoing training
✔️ Hands-on mentorship

This isn’t a one-time intervention. It’s a system designed to build confidence, capability, and sustainable early learning environments from the ground up.

Hunger should never stand in the way of a child’s growth and potential.

And yet, thousands more children still arrive each morning without anything to eat.

With your brand’s partnership and ongoing commitment, we can ensure that every child receives the nutrition they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

If your organisation feels called to invest in sustainable nutrition support for early childhood development, we would love to start the conversation.

Together, we can ensure that no child tries to learn on an empty stomach.
