Through continuous CCTV surveillance, community reporting via WhatsApp and telephone calls, and coordinated responses with emergency services and law enforcement, the Mossel Bay Joint Operations Centre managed 17 incidents during the past week.

๐Ÿ“ก SURVEILLANCE & CCTV-REPORTED INCIDENTS (11)

Continuous CCTV monitoring enabled the early detection and escalation of public safety, fire, crime prevention, and public order incidents across the municipal area.

* Fire & smoke-related incidents (multiple locations)
Several fire-related incidents were detected in Kwanonqaba and surrounding areas, including a skip fire in Ndibaniso Street, shack fires behind Asla, near the Pig Farm, close to 7 de Laan, and thick smoke behind Garden Route School. Fire Services and Law Enforcement were deployed where required, with fires either extinguished or brought under control.

* Public gathering and protest monitoring
A gathering initially involving approximately 20 people on Crotz Street grew to more than 80 participants as the group moved through several areas, including Asla Park and Barcelona Circle. SAPS and Law Enforcement maintained a visible presence throughout the gathering to ensure public safety. The crowd later dispersed peacefully without incidents of violence, property damage, or road blockages.

* Assault incident (James Street)
CCTV operators observed a male assaulting a female. SAPS responded to the complaint and escorted the individuals after the situation had calmed down.

* Suspicious activity and crime prevention
โ€“ Two suspects were observed stealing streetlight wiring near the Dana Bay entrance on Louis Fourie Road. The suspects fled before officers arrived and remain under observation.
โ€“ Three suspicious individuals concealing their identities near MJ Harris were reported to SAPS. One suspect was arrested after being found in possession of an illegal substance.
โ€“ Approximately 30 individuals walking along the N2 towards Langeberg Mall were monitored and reported. It was later confirmed that they were foreign nationals moving to a safer area.

* Road traffic incident (George Road, De Bakke)
Emergency services responded to a motor vehicle incident. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol, refused to provide personal details, and was subsequently arrested. The vehicle was removed from the scene.

Community members continued to play an important role in reporting suspicious activity.

* Suspicious person (Bland Street)
A suspicious male was reported after being seen entering a property frontage, appearing to collect an item before leaving the area. SAPS and security services responded, however the individual had already left before arrival.

๐Ÿ”„ FOLLOW-UP COMPLAINTS (1)

* Abandoned vehicle (Suiderkruis)
A vehicle reported to have been parked in the same location for approximately 10 days was investigated by Law Enforcement. A seven-day removal notice was issued, and it was confirmed that the vehicle licence disc had expired.

๐Ÿš“ SAPS ASSISTANCE & INVESTIGATIVE SUPPORT (1)

* Housebreaking investigation (Stinkhout Street, Heiderand)
The Joint Operations Centre provided extensive investigative support through CCTV playback analysis, vehicle tracking, and NAVIC technology. Multiple vehicles were investigated before CCTV footage positively identified the suspect vehicle as a Honda CR-V.

Through further playback analysis and vehicle tracking, officers established the vehicle's movements and identified the address linked to the registered owner. SAPS followed up at the property, located the vehicle, and arrested three individuals in connection with the investigation.

โ˜Ž๏ธ TELEPHONE COMPLAINTS (2)

* Power outage (Joe Slovo)
The complaint was escalated to the Municipal Call Centre, and power was successfully restored.

* Open fire complaint (N2 off-ramp towards Dana Bay Bridge)
Fire Services and Law Enforcement were notified. The fire was extinguished before officials arrived on scene.

Real-time CCTV monitoring enabled the rapid identification and escalation of crime prevention, public safety, fire, and by-law related incidents across the municipal area.

โ€ข Open fires & smoke-related incidents (multiple locations)
Open fires and smoke were detected near the Pig Farm area, Cuba, behind Asla near the N2, Dyosi Street, Ndibaniso Street in Elangeni, and the Sea Cottage PTZ area on the Hartenbos side.
Most incidents were successfully extinguished while being monitored or attended to by Fire Services and Law Enforcement.

โ€ข Suspicious activity & crime prevention operations
โ€“ Suspicious individual spotted at MJ Harris passage resulted in one arrest for possession of stolen goods.
โ€“ Two individuals stealing a gate near Adriaans & Dywili direction Frans Avenue were arrested by SAPS.
โ€“ Three suspicious males roaming around Cecil Shepard Pump Station with plastic bags and a flashlight were reported to SAPS and Law Enforcement.
โ€“ Two individuals carrying a large pole on Blue Waters Road were stopped; one suspect was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon, and the poles were confiscated for investigation.
โ€“ Individuals carrying suspected stolen property near Bill Jeff Pump Station fled before SAPS arrived.
โ€“ A suspect carrying a Total gas cylinder near Roselind & Dial Brand abandoned the cylinder and fled the area.

โ€ข Public safety & behavioural incidents
โ€“ A mentally disturbed individual walking in the middle of the road on Ockert Bothma was reported to SAPS; the person left the area before officers arrived.
โ€“ A fight at the back of Asla Park resulted in SAPS intervention and arrests.
โ€“ Three suspicious individuals trespassing near Church & 21st Street fled the scene while being monitored by CCTV.

โ€ข Illegal activities & by-law enforcement
โ€“ Illegal structure activity in Bokwe Street and JCC Camp informal settlement was investigated by Law Enforcement.
โ€“ Illegal sand mining near the N2 Dana Bay bridge resulted in warnings being issued and municipal by-laws explained to offenders.
โ€“ A shack being erected in Cuba, Kwanonqaba, was reported for ongoing monitoring and follow-up.

โ€ข Suspicious vehicle monitoring
A suspicious vehicle linked to alleged housebreaking and drug-related activities near 9th Avenue & Van Zyl was investigated. It was confirmed that the registered owner had already been arrested and another individual was driving the vehicle.

โ€ข Public assistance monitoring
A vehicle being pushed near Mikeva Circle towards Mossel Street was monitored to ensure traffic flow remained unaffected. The vehicle was safely removed without causing obstruction.

SAPS responded after suspects fled the scene. The area was patrolled.

Firefighters attended and successfully extinguished the fire.

โ€ข Motor vehicle accident (Seder Street)
Emergency services responded after a vehicle collided with a tree. The injured person was transported to hospital.

โ€ข Theft complaint (Mr Cheap Shop, Marsh Street)
SAPS attended the complaint. The matter was resolved on scene and no case was opened.

โ€ข Vehicle tracing assistance โ€“ Theft investigation
The Joint Operations Centre assisted SAPS in locating an Opel Corsa linked to a theft case using NAVIC monitoring systems. Investigation revealed the vehicle was operating with cloned/false registration plates. Information was relayed to the investigating officer.

โ€ข Fire location assistance (Crotz Street)
CCTV cameras were used to locate a skip fire in the area. Fire Department responded and successfully extinguished the fire.

โ€ข Missing elderly woman investigation
Playback footage was conducted to trace the last known location of an 83-year-old woman and her vehicle near Louis Fourie and Marsh Street. During the investigation, confirmation was received that the woman had been found safe and admitted to hospital.

โ€ข Suspicious vehicle linked to alleged cash-in-transit activity
A silver Audi A4 was monitored through CCTV and NAVIC systems after being reported suspicious in the Mossel Bay area. SAPS remain on the lookout for the vehicle.

Ongoing surveillance operations enabled the JOC to identify and monitor several suspicious, criminal, and emergency-related incidents across Mossel Bay.

Highlights included:

Two individuals caught poaching illegal plants opposite Fynbos Heights Lifestyle Village, resulting in their arrest and a follow-up investigation by Cape Nature.

An armed suspect carrying a dangerous weapon arrested in MJ Harris, and two individuals caught jumping through toilet windows at De Bakke Beach.

A robbery and stabbing incident observed at Flora Road entrance, and three individuals spotted with a large amount of copper cable in James Street, with immediate handover to SAPS.

Suspected theft of roofing timber on Blue Waters Road, and illegal electrical tampering detected in Mokaba Street and Ockert Bothma.

An illegal structure construction and renovation monitored at JCC Camp, resulting in a joint response by Law Enforcement and the Red Ants.

Reckless and negligent driving intercepted on Mayixhale Street, where a taxi was immediately pursued by Municipal Traffic officers.

Several patrols were conducted by SAPS, Law Enforcement, and Traffic Services, while continuous monitoring assisted field officers with real-time updates and suspect tracking.

A severe shack fire involving six structures in Elangeni, successfully extinguished by the Fire Department.

Rubbish, waste, and open fires monitored in Barcelona, Sijaji Street, Kwanonqaba Transfer Station, and next to the Elangeni pig farm.

Multiple skip fires extinguished by on-duty shifts in Mountain View, Luthuli, and Ndibaniso Street.

Heavy smoke monitored on Watson Street towards Voorbaai, and a controlled veld fire verified at Ockert Bothma.

The Fire Department, Law Enforcement, and proactive community members responded promptly to ensure all active fires were safely managed or extinguished.

A business theft at Agri in Voorbaai, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of stolen goods by SAPS.

A person tampering with an electrical box near the George Street clinic, who was successfully removed by Law Enforcement.

Power outages reported and successfully resolved by the Electrical Department in Gentswana Zone 8 and Grant Street, De Bakke.

Medical emergency coordination for a deceased individual in Jansen Street, with immediate dispatch confirmation from the ambulance services.

A complaint regarding a person sleeping in public on Marsh Street, resolved through a joint response by Absolut Security and SAPS.

Technical services, private security partners, and emergency services responded efficiently to ensure community grievances were resolved.
