Through continuous CCTV surveillance, community reporting, and close coordination with SAPS, Law Enforcement, Fire Services, Emergency Services and other municipal departments, the Mossel Bay Joint Operations Centre managed and supported 34 incidents and operational matters during the past week.
๐ฅ CCTV SURVEILLANCE & INCIDENT RESPONSE โ 24
CCTV monitoring continued to provide real-time situational awareness, allowing suspicious activity, fires, public safety concerns and possible criminal activity to be identified and escalated for immediate intervention.
๐ฅ Fire & Smoke Incidents
Several fires and smoke-related incidents were detected through CCTV monitoring:
* An open fire involving the burning of cables was detected next to the Ockert Bothma substation. Law Enforcement was notified and the individual extinguished the fire.
* A possible shack fire was detected in Barcelona. Fire Services attended and confirmed that one building and one shack had burnt. No injuries were reported.
* Smoke, possibly from a skip fire, was detected near Crotz Street. Firefighters attended and successfully extinguished the fire.
* A large fire was detected between the shacks in the Cuba/Giyani area. The smoke eventually cleared while the area was monitored.
* A shack fire in Asla, Ockert Bothma, was reported to Fire Services, who were already aware of the incident. The fire was successfully extinguished.
* A house fire was detected in Sijaji Street, Elangeni. Firefighters attended and successfully extinguished the fire.
* A skip fire was detected at the Thembelihle open field. Firefighters responded and successfully extinguished the fire.
๐จ Crime Prevention & Suspicious Activity
CCTV monitoring identified several incidents involving suspected theft, robbery and suspicious behaviour:
* Three men were observed digging for cables near the Dana Bay entrance on Louis Fourie Road. SAPS, Traffic and the K9 Unit attended, but the suspects fled before officers arrived.
* Two men were observed emerging from bushes in Blue Waters, with one carrying what appeared to be a burglar door and a broom. The individuals proceeded towards JCC Camp and disappeared from view.
* Two men carrying a white door were observed in Blue Waters and monitored as they proceeded towards JCC Camp.
* A suspicious vehicle at Bill Jeff Pump Station was observed in connection with possible drug dealing. The vehicle left before SAPS arrived.
* A person carrying a television, possibly stolen property, was reported in Ockert Bothma. Two males fled and jumped a fence when SAPS arrived.
* Three individuals attempting to rob another person were observed in Ockert Bothma. The targeted person ran away and the suspects left towards Asla.
* Two individuals suspected of carrying stolen property were observed near Roselind and Jacaranda. SAPS attended and established that the individuals were selling blankets and mirrors.
* A person was observed carrying a pile of pallets and concealing them in a passage towards Tarka. SAPS attended, located the pallets and detained the individual, who was also found in possession of suspected mandrax.
* Three men carrying a roof plank were observed near Adriaans & Thembelihle. SAPS attended and found one individual with a trolley and drugs in his possession. He was taken to Mossel Bay SAPS.
* Three suspicious individuals were observed near Adriaans & Dywili. SAPS patrolled the area and approached the men near the local "slaghuis". Two fled, while one was arrested for possession of a sharp object.
โ๏ธ Illegal Activities & By-Law Enforcement
* A person digging soil next to the road at Andriaans & Dywili was reported to Law Enforcement. One written warning was issued and the individual was instructed to stop.
* Illegal sand mining was detected at Louis Fourie & Crotz Road. Law Enforcement attended, removed one individual and issued a written warning.
* An individual was observed attempting an illegal electrical connection in Mokaba Street. Law Enforcement attended, but no person was found actively carrying out the connection.
๐ซ Weapon-Related Incident
Two suspicious individuals were observed in Dyosi, with one appearing to remove a handgun from his sock and place it behind his waist. SAPS attended and located the individual. The firearm was confirmed to be a replica/duplicate weapon. SAPS confiscated the replica and no arrest was made.
๐ฅ Public Safety Incidents
* A man was observed being robbed in Dyosi. SAPS attended and found the victim unharmed. Due to the victim being intoxicated, he was unable to open a case.
* A person was observed carrying out a possible vehicle obstruction concern near Mikeva Circle. The vehicle was pushed out of the area and did not obstruct traffic.
* A motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle colliding with a cow was detected on the N2 between Dana Bay and Langeberg Mall. The necessary emergency departments attended the scene.
* A suspicious vehicle believed to be linked to possible housebreaking and drug dealing was monitored near 9th Avenue & Van Zyl. It was established that the registered owner was already under arrest and another person was driving the vehicle.
๐ฒ COMMUNITY REPORTING โ WHATSAPP COMPLAINTS (3)
Community members continued to play an important role in reporting incidents requiring municipal and emergency assistance.
* Medical assistance โ Adolf Street
A report was received regarding a man lying at 47 Adolf Street requiring medical assistance. The complaint was escalated to the Call Centre and ambulance assistance was requested.
* Street fighting
A complaint regarding people fighting was escalated to SAPS. Officers attended, but no people were found fighting on arrival.
* Assistance with a person with dementia โ Bayside Centre
SAPS and security personnel assisted a person requiring help. He was taken to the police station, where it was confirmed that he was a resident of Getswana Old Age Home.

* Power outage โ JCC, Walvis Street
The outage was escalated to Technical Services. The Electrical Department attended and power was successfully restored.
๐ SAPS OPERATIONAL ASSISTANCE โ 3
The Joint Operations Centre provided CCTV playback, NAVIC support and live monitoring to assist SAPS with ongoing investigations and operational matters.
* Stabbing investigation โ Blue Waters
CCTV playback was conducted in relation to an incident at approximately 07:42. Footage showed the individual running from the beach area, crossing Louis Fourie Road and proceeding towards the kloof in the direction of JCC Camp. SAPS and Ambulance Services attended, and the injured person was transported to hospital.
* Suspected drug-dealing vehicle โ White bakkie
CCTV playback, NAVIC checks and live camera monitoring were conducted to locate a white bakkie reportedly involved in drug-related activity. During the search, SAPS confirmed that the vehicle had been located and one individual was arrested for possession of tik.
* Identification of possible suspects โ Curlew & Plover Street
CCTV playback was conducted after information was received that possible suspects had discarded a wanted key into a nearby yard upon seeing police. Footage showed a woman throwing an item into a yard. SAPS was informed, and both individuals were subsequently located and detained at Da Gamaskop Police Station.
๐ป RADIO-REPORTED INCIDENTS โ 2
* Assistance requested for woman from Albertinia โ Sky Lounge, Heiderand
Law Enforcement and SAPS were notified regarding a woman reportedly roaming around the area. Officers attended and located the woman, who subsequently left with a friend. Situation resolved.
* Medical assistance โ Point Hotel area
An ambulance was requested for a 58-year-old woman who had reportedly broken her leg. The matter was escalated to the Fire Department and ambulance assistance was arranged.

* Da Gamaskop SAPS โ Blue Waters / Louis Fourie Road
Footage was requested in connection with a robbery involving a weapon other than a firearm, reported on 22 August 2026 at approximately 07:42. CCTV playback was conducted, the relevant footage was downloaded and handed over to SAPS for further investigation.
