The Zululand Conservation Trust Rhino Ride is held at Bayete Zulu Lodge in the Manyoni Private Game Reserve, a 23 000 hectare proclaimed private nature reserve, home Africaβs BIG 5. All proceeds from the Hollywoodbets Rhino Ride go directly into the Zululand Conservation Trust, which was established in 2011 and aims to grow conservation, counteract poaching & establish & maintain a strong mutually
beneficial partnership of empowerment for the neighbouring Zulu communities. The 21st century brings with it a scourge of poaching, especially threatening our magnificent Rhino. The situation to date is so severe that an increasing number of privately owned game reserves are disposing of their Rhino, as they are considered too much of a risk in relation the rising security costs of protecting these animals. Protected, favourable habitat for these splendid creatures is at a premium, and as the ZCT is supporting rhino protection and expanding rhino range & the rhino population in Zululand. Not only does the ZCT support rhino protection but also rescues and rehabilitates rhino calves orphaned from poaching. In 2017 the Zululand Rhino Orphanage was established to provide support to rhino reserves in the Zululand region, taking orphaned calves in from all state and private owned parks. Outside of our rhino work the ZCT has recognised that conservation is more about people & their views, than merely establishing game parks. The ZCT is continuously working towards empowering the local communities through assistance in education, well-being & by forging mutually beneficial partnerships between the community & conservation initiatives.
