We are thrilled to share a wonderful milestone for our local pangolin population. Lulu has given birth to a healthy pup!

​After fitting Lulu with a tracking tag, we observed that she successfully established her home range. Last week, our team deployed a camera trap outside her burrow and captured extraordinary images of Lulu alongside her newborn pup.

​This success is particularly meaningful as Lulu was originally born on the reserve. Seeing her successfully raise the next generation of pangolins right here on the property is a remarkable triumph for our conservation efforts.

They're up before the sun and still working long after it sets - bottle-feeding orphaned calves, patrolling fence lines, treating wounds, keeping watch through the night. It's easy to talk about conservation in the abstract, but conservation is actually a team of people showing up, day after day 🩶

In 2017, only 23% of Mandlakazi High's matric class passed their final exams. Principal Mrs Nzimande knew her students deserved better - many share a home with relatives and have nowhere quiet to study. So she started a matric camp: three weeks before finals, pupils move into the school for warm meals, structured study time, and extra lessons from teachers who stay on to help.

ZCT funds the cooks, the extra teachers, security, mattresses, and a meat donation towards the meals. The results speak for themselves: a 60% pass rate in 2018, then 67.2% in 2019, with 14 students earning Bachelor's passes and 18 earning diplomas.

Behind every polished evening - the dresses, the auction paddles, the laughter over dinner - there’s a much quieter story happening back at Manyoni. It’s the story of a rhino calf getting a second chance, a ranger clocking another long night on patrol, a community project that keeps a school running. That’s what the ZCT x Sophie Loof Foundation Gala was really for. Every glass raised, every bid placed, feeds straight back into the work you don’t see on the night, but that never stops 🌿
