COMMUNITY NOTICE
Strong communities are bound by a golden thread – *the idea that we should treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves.* I know that’s how the vast majority of people in this area act. So much of our happiness and pride stems from that idea and having peace of mind in the places we call home. Yet, there’s a small minority whose anti-social behavior makes other people’s lives a misery.
It is simply unacceptable that anyone should have to live in fear of intimidation from their neighbours, undisciplined kids or gangs terrorising their streets; that parks and children’s play areas should be littered with empty alcohol bottles, that women and girls should feel unsafe walking alone at night; or that shops should close down because its no longer places that people want to be. That is not the kind of community anyone wants, and it is not the kind of community we are.
That is why we are launching this new Action Plan. Because anti-social behavior is not a low‑level crime. It is not just a nuisance or irritant. It ruins communities. It is unexceptable that we allow a few p**s g*t laaities whose parents rent in this area to run amok, show no respect to the elders of our area. We need to stamp it out—and we can. There is nothing inevitable about it.
First, we need to treat this anti-social behavior with the urgency it deserves by policing and target the worst affected areas like our parks and shops. The minute there is a g*thering by these perps, we need to go out and deal with it.. We (each and every law-abiding resident) need to show zero tolerance on these g*therings.
We also need to introduce a new approach called Immediate Justice to make perpetrators repair the damage they have done. They will be forced to pick up litter, wash walls, or clean up graffiti within as little as 48 hours of being caught.
Second, we will take a zero-tolerance approach – including cracking down on the illegal drug dens that blight our community.
*In addition, we will and must make it easier to evict tenants who are persistently disrespectful and disruptive to their neighbours by signing a petition and handing it over to authorities. Saps , Courts and council.*
Third, we must give the police and other agencies the tools they need to act and restore pride in our communities by reporting incidents and opening criminal cases against the perpetrators.
I want to strengthen that golden thread which binds us together –to show respect to our fellow human beings and to build communities where families can flourish, where businesses want to invest and where people feel pride, optimism and hope. By stopping anti-social behavior in its tracks, that is what this action plan will do.
The brutal attack on uncle Jonty, the malicious damage to property caused cannot be left unattended. We need to act now. Please support the proposal of the residents which was on scene lastnight to start a petition and removed those responsible from our area.
