Vine Academy and Model Farm We provide SAQA-accredited qualifications in Viticulture and conduct industry research & development.

The Vine Academy is committed to developing and educating young South Africans who are eager to build a bright future in the vine industry. Our primary objective is to address industry-specific challenges, such as improved production levels, employment equity, teaching of scarce and critical skills, black economic empowerment and ensuring the quality of skills delivery. Ongoing research is conducted, and various agricultural techniques are demonstrated at our Model Farm.

Our second-year students are hard at work in the VAMF table grape demonstration block, planted in 2025, preparing the Prime Seedless vines for the upcoming harvest.

As part of their practical learning, students are carrying out bunch shortening, shoot tipping, and bunch selection for effective crop load control.

๐ŸŒฟ Have you spotted the cover crop? This forms part of our Green Smart approach, promoting sustainable vineyard management.

Our first-year students recently visited the irrigation setup at Berekisanang as part of their Agricultural Engineering module.

The visit provided valuable hands-on experience, allowing students to explore the irrigation system from water extraction and the pump house to in-field irrigation. They also learned about the different irrigation components and how they work together to ensure efficient water distribution.
