Learners to Leaders - Civic Education Project in South Africa has been an inspiring journey💡

Throughout, our extraordinary young female leaders from Johannesburg and Pretoria have had the opportunity to respectively deepen their understanding of democracy, its key characteristics and different forms, while exploring how democratic principles connect to the African Union’s role in protecting and advancing women’s rights.

They were challenged to think about solutions not only at the continental and national levels, but also about what meaningful change could look like within their own communities.

An especially important part of the programme was exploring the often-underappreciated relationship between civic participation and mental well-being, helping the learners understand that healthy leaders contribute to change more efficiently. 🧠💜

The project may be coming to an end but we are not done yet, until women and girls, never doubt that they are valuable, powerful and equal.

📍 South Africa Women in Political Participation Atelier 2026 created an important space for young women to explore the importance of mentorship, resilience, civic awareness, networks and meaningful participation in shaping more inclusive societies, beyond elections and formal political office.

We were reminded that women’s participation does not end at the ballot box, our voices, leadership, and influence matter eveeery day👌

The message was clear: young women do not have to wait for a title or position to begin leading. ✊🏾

Through the Women in Political Participation Atelier 2026 - young female leaders came together to learn from inspiring women leaders, build their knowledge and confidence, and explore pathways to meaningful leadership and civic participation.

Because the future of leadership cannot wait. Young women are ready to lead, influence and change the world.
