Professional Hunters' Association of South Africa

Professional Hunters' Association of South Africa Professional Hunting It is important to make sure that the professional hunter/hunting outfitter you are signing up with is a member of PHASA.

In the event difficulties occur, there is very little assistance PHASA can provide if the professional hunter/hunting outfitter is not a PHASA member.

Today we honour the courage, potential and voice of South Africa’s youth.

For PHASA, the future of our industry depends on young people who understand conservation, respect wildlife, value legal hunting and recognise the role that responsible wildlife management plays in South Africa.

May we continue to guide, educate and inspire the next generation to protect our natural heritage with pride, knowledge and purpose.

“Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things.”
— Isaiah 40:26

When we look across the wilderness, the mountains, the skies, and the beauty of creation, we are reminded that none of it exists by chance. Every detail reflects the majesty and greatness of God.

We believe creation speaks of His power and His presence. It is both a blessing and a responsibility to care for the natural world He has entrusted to us.

May we never lose sight of the Creator through the beauty of His creation, and may our lives honour Him in all that we do.

USFWS Director Brian Nesvik addressed the SCI President’s Dinner, sharing important insights on the future direction of the Service.
He emphasized that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service must remain focused on serving the public, while also addressing key legislative priorities. A major point of discussion was the need to reform the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Director Nesvik noted that the ESA has often been compared to the “Hotel California”—once species are listed, they rarely come off. With fewer than 3% of listed species ever being delisted, he stressed the importance of recognizing and celebrating conservation success by removing species that have recovered. Efforts are underway to bring meaningful reforms to the ESA.
He also confirmed that any lead ammunition restrictions will be applied only where scientifically justified, focusing on specific species and areas rather than broad, sweeping measures.
We are encouraged by Director Nesvik’s leadership and the clear, science-based direction he is setting for the USFWS.

Jess de Klerk (PHASA CEO) and Barbara Crown (SCI) was part of the Florida delegation during SCI Lobby Week 2026, engaging members of Congress on proposed Endangered Species Act (ESA) reforms. The discussions focused on addressing concerns raised by Florida lawmakers about specific elements of the reform package, while emphasizing the need to balance strong species protection with science-based, practical management tools for conservation and hunting. PHASA remains hopeful that an improved ESA reform bill, reflecting these constructive conversations, will be tabled again in the near future.
