ABRAHAM KRIEL CHILDRENS HOME. For more than two decades, Ria Potgieter of Motsomi Safaris has quietly stood behind the children of Abraham Kriel Children’s Home, turning her passion for hunting into lasting care. Year after year, Ria and her hunting clients have visited the home, donating venison, toys, clothing, cleaning materials and other essentials to support the children’s daily needs and create moments of joy.
These visits are a powerful reminder that hunters do more than conserve wildlife – they also uplift communities and help change young lives for the better. The PHASA Foundation and long‑time supporter Amy Bell are honoured to stand alongside Ria and Motsomi Safaris in supporting Abraham Kriel Children’s Home and the vital work they do for vulnerable children.

The PHASA Foundation is proud to have been represented by our Chairperson, Ilse Joubert, at the 2nd Alldays Wildlife Research Conference – Community. Conservation. Collaboration – held on 22–23 May 2026 in Limpopo, South Africa.
Ilse was invited to deliver a presentation showcasing the Catspotter initiative and to share insights from the national leopard survey co-led by the Safari Club International Foundation (SCIF). Her talk highlighted how citizen science, professional hunters, landowners, and researchers can work together to improve data on leopard distribution, abundance, and conservation status across South Africa.

By presenting Catspotter and the national leopard survey, Ilse emphasised the critical role that collaboration and data-driven management play in ensuring the long-term conservation of leopards, while supporting sustainable use and benefits to local communities. The session sparked valuable discussion among students, researchers, reserve managers, and conservation practitioners about practical ways to integrate community participation and hunting-sector data into broader conservation planning.

We are grateful to the Alldays Wildlife and Communities Research Centre (AWCRC) for the invitation and for creating a platform that brings together researchers, communities, private landowners, and conservation organisations in a spirit of genuine partnership. The PHASA Foundation looks forward to strengthening collaboration with AWCRC and other partners as we continue to support science-based conservation initiatives, including ongoing leopard monitoring efforts and community-focused projects.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
— Psalm 19:1

There is something deeply humbling about standing in the wilderness and witnessing the beauty of creation. From the open skies to the wildlife that roams the bushveld, nature constantly reminds us of God’s greatness and His handiwork.

At the PHASA Foundation, we are committed to protecting and preserving these natural spaces so that future generations may continue to experience and appreciate the wonder of creation.

May we always serve as faithful stewards of the world God has entrusted to us.

The PHASA Foundation, in partnership with Safari Club International Foundation (SCIF), has started deploying research cameras on a new monitoring site in Limpopo. Active landowner participation is crucial to the success of this work and directly contributes to effective deployment, long‑term site access, and meaningful conservation outcomes on the ground. This is groundbreaking applied research, and we look forward to robust data collection from this new area to strengthen leopard conservation and sustainable-use management in South Africa.
