Dassenberg Horse and Dog Rescue Centre At Dassenberg Rescue Centre, we express our love in simple actions, rather than big words. When an animal first steps onto our farm, they move into a new life.

We rescue, rehabilitate and re-house neglected horses and dogs, and help them transition from neglected to loved, from sad to happy, from desperate to hopeful. This 4-year-old boy is not just a survivor—he’s an absolute character with a massive heart for both humans and other dogs!

Buddy’s journey to us wasn't easy. He first showed up on a local farm where he wasn't welcome due to fears he might chase the sheep. A few weeks later, a kind Samaritan found him wandering down Brakkenfontein Road and brought him into our care. When Buddy arrived, he carried the painful physical reminders of a tough life on the streets, with scars on his legs and bite marks all over his body.

Buddy was understandably quiet and kept to himself in his own kennel. But oh, how times have changed!

Buddy’s Incredible Transformation:

Finding His Voice: Buddy has completely shed his quiet shell! He is now wonderfully vocal and loves to loudly let us know exactly when he expects his belly rubs and attention.

The Neighborhood Friend-Maker: Buddy decided his own kennel was a bit too lonely. Showing some serious determination, he actually dug a hole under the fence completely on his own accord just to go visit his neighbors, Raja and Cinnamon! He absolutely adores other dogs.

Adventure Hound: He lives for his time playing in the park and is always ready for his next big outdoor adventure.

Pure Affection: Despite the rough start and the scars he carries, Buddy holds zero grudges. He is extremely loving and actively seeks out attention from every single person he meets.

Buddy is a clever, resilient, and deeply affectionate boy who is ready to bring his joyful energy to a forever home—preferably one with some doggy siblings.

Fashion on the farm usually looks a certain way: trusty work boots, faded t-shirts, and jeans that have seen better days (and a lot of mud!). Our horse volunteers know better than anyone that "Sunday best" stays in the closet when duty calls.

Then along comes Kel Lee, completely redefining farm fashion! 🐴✨

Look on the side of her jeans—how incredible is that embroidered horse? While most of us dress to blend in with the barn dust, she found the perfect way to bring a little extra magic (and style).

Every week, a group of wonderful Elkanah House learners bring light, love, and happiness to our farm. Whether they’re giving our bouncy puppies extra affection, spending peaceful quality time with our seniors, or taking our dogs for sunny farm walks when the weather plays along, their commitment makes a world of difference. 🐶☀️

Socialization and human connection are so vital for our dogs and watching their confidence grow during these weekly visits is pure joy. We are beyond grateful for your hands-on help and dedication! ❤️

Meet the Abbotsdale Crew! 🐾✨

Recently, a kind-hearted rescuer brought us five incredible puppies from Abbotsdale—Natz, Neo, Nacho, Nada (and their sibling Nellie, who has already taken a step forward!). Since arriving at the farm, this sweet pack has completely stolen our hearts.

They are 4 months old, vaccinated, microchipped, and already scheduled for their sterilizations in September. They love socializing and playing with all the farm dogs, and each one is busy developing their own wonderful personality!

Here’s a quick peek at the crew:

🌶️ Nacho: The undisputed energy king! He’s the busiest of the bunch, always on the move, exploring, and looking for his next big puppy adventure.

🌸 Natz: Our brave little fighter. Natz came off the streets suffering from malnutrition and a compromised immune system, which led to a case of Puppy Strangles. She’s currently on antibiotics and doing amazingly well—we can already see her beautiful face healing more and more every single day!

💫 Neo & Nada: Sweet, curious, and full of classic puppy joy. They love playing with their siblings and learning the ropes of farm life.

These pups are ready to find patient, loving forever families to help them grow into cherished pets.

Adoption Day Update for Today! 🌧️🐾

Brrr! With today's cold and wet weather, we’ve decided to give our precious pups a well-deserved rest day to stay cozy and dry. There will be no Adoption Day at De Werf Farmstall today.

The good news? We’ll be back tomorrow (Sunday) from 12:00 to 14:00!

If you’re snuggled up at home today dreaming of adding a new family member, you don't have to wait for the rain to clear. We have several wonderful dogs (from tiny puppies to 12-year-old seniors) dreaming of a home.

URGENT. We have 2 days left to find him a home.

Don't let Champ's size fool you—born in February 2023, this big, beautiful Pitbull boy is a total baby at heart!

Despite surviving a traumatic injury that resulted in emergency neutering, Champ’s resilient spirit remains completely unbroken. He came through his ordeal just as gentle, sweet, and affection-obsessed as ever.

Why You’ll Fall in Love with Champ:

Expressive & Affectionate: Champ uses his soulful eyes, funny sounds, and gentle pawing to demand cuddles. He loves being pampered—especially after a lukewarm bath!

Model Housemate: Strictly an indoor dog, Champ is fully house-trained, loves his own bed, and clearly communicates when he needs to pop outside.

The Routine King: He lives for his 6:30 PM dinner, loves peanut-butter biscuits, and isn't afraid to be a little delightfully picky with his food.

Great with People: Wonderful with respectful children, deeply loyal, and a total softie (if you raise your voice at him, he will sulk until you make it up to him with love!).

Other Dogs: Comfortable around other dogs (preferably no power breeds), though he would thrive as the main recipient of your love.

Champ’s family loves him dearly and wants to find him a home that will continue to treat him like the cherished, pampered baby he is.

Nacho is one of five beautiful puppies rescued by a kind lady in Abbotsdale! Along with his siblings, Natz, Neo, and Nada (Nellie already found a home) they are patiently waiting for their forever home.

Nacho is busy developing a wonderful, unique personality. Full of puppy joy, curiosity, and sweet energy, he adores attention, and playing with his siblings. This lovely pup is ready to find a patient, loving forever family to grow up with and learn the ropes of being a cherished family pet.
