🚧 INSIDE SOUTH AFRICA’S R3.2 BILLION UNIVERSITY PROJECT: PRETORIA EAST CAMPUS RISING FAST

Construction is moving full steam ahead on the new campus of Akademia - AfriForum in Pretoria East, one of the largest private education developments currently underway in South Africa. The massive R3.2 billion project is being built on a 220-hectare site in the Mooiplaats area and is expected to welcome its first students in January 2028.

Phase 1 of the project includes: • Modern learning centres
• A fully equipped library
• Lecture halls and laboratories
• Offices and administrative facilities
• An amphitheatre
• Coffee shops and a cafeteria
• A student centre
• Student residences accommodating 750 students

The scale of the development is enormous: • 360,000 cubic metres of soil removed during earthworks
• 40km of fibre-optic cable installation
• 23km of underground water pipelines
• 19.3 million litres of water storage capacity
• 30,000 square metres of tarred roads and parking areas

Once operational, the campus is expected to serve around 2,500 students and 400 staff members daily during its initial phase, with future expansion plans aimed at accommodating more than 6,000 students.

The project officially broke ground earlier this year and has already become one of the biggest private investments in South Africa’s higher education sector. Developers say construction remains on schedule for the January 2028 opening.

Do you think more private universities like this could help solve South Africa’s higher education capacity challenges, or should government focus on expanding public universities instead?

Voter Education

Here are three out of the 9 Provinces and what we observe is the voter apathy among the youth in general but in particular the 18 - 29 year old and among the reasons are high level of unemployment, inequality and poverty among these groups SA Youth has close to 4,5 registered out of the 12 million not in education or training.

Second is the male constituency legging behind females in all three Provinces and notably visible is the voting population in all three Provinces, information provided by Stats SA and also the registered voters with Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC)
