These photographs capture a solemn gathering of families, survivors, churches, communities, and leaders as we came together to remember the precious lives lost at sea, honour those who survived, and stand in solidarity with the grieving families.

May the memories of those who passed remain forever in our hearts, and may God continue to strengthen, comfort, and sustain the survivors, families, and communities affected by this tragedy.

We remember. We mourn. We stand together. We pray. πŸ™πŸ•ŠοΈ

MV MATUI COMMEMORATION SERVICE
In Loving Memory of the Vanuatu Citizens Lost at Sea

Date: Sunday, 20 September 2026
Venue: Samansin Wharf, Luganville, Santo

The Anglican Church of Melanesia, together with the families and communities of Luganville and Santo, gratefully acknowledges the presence and support of everyone who joined us on Sunday, 20 September 2026, at Samansin Wharf to pay tribute to the precious lives lost in the tragic sinking of MV Matui on 11 September 2026.

We sincerely acknowledge the presence of the Honourable Prime Minister, Members of Parliament, Government representatives, church leaders, traditional leaders, members of the Vanuatu Police Force, emergency and maritime authorities, and other dignitaries who stood with the families and community during this time of profound sorrow.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the survivors of MV Matui, whose presence reminds us of God's mercy and the precious gift of life.

To the families who have lost their loved ones, we offer our continued prayers, love, and solidarity. May God strengthen and comfort you in the days ahead.

We thank all churches, organisations, businesses, volunteers, service providers, and members of the wider community who contributed their time, resources, prayers, and support to this commemoration.

Above all, we give thanks to God for His presence with us in our grief, for the lives we shared with those who have gone before us, and for the hope that remains in Christ.

β€œThe Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” β€” Psalm 34:18

May the souls of the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace, and may perpetual light shine upon them.

May God comfort the families, strengthen the survivors, and bless the people of Vanuatu.

With heartfelt gratitude from the Anglican Church of Melanesia and the wider Luganville and Santo community.

πŸ™ THANKSGIVING FOR THE SURVIVORS OF MV MATUI πŸ™

This morning, three survivors of the MV Matui tragedy came to Transfigaration church at Banban to give thanks to God for the gift of life and for His protection over them. πŸ™

It was truly a blessing and a joyful moment to hear their stories and to see them standing before us today. We give thanks to God for saving their lives and carrying them through such a difficult and traumatic experience.

At the same time, as the nation continues to mourn with the families who lost their loved ones in this tragic disaster, we pray that God will comfort every grieving family, strengthen the survivors, and bring peace to all who are carrying sorrow in their hearts.

May the memories of those we have lost remain forever in our hearts, and may the souls of those who died rest in peace with God. πŸ™πŸ•ŠοΈ

β€œThe Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” β€” Psalm 34:18
