📣Introducing 2025 Hall of Fame Organization: Mary Lackey
For 40 years, Mary Lackey served Gila Vista Junior High School as a teacher, coach, and mentor. Beginning in Physical Education and Health and later teaching Science, she brought energy, organization, and encouragement to every classroom she entered. Mary believed in holding students to high expectations while giving them the support to meet them. Her classrooms inspired confidence and curiosity, and her students still remember her as the teacher who helped them believe in themselves. As a coach, Mary led multiple sports programs, building teams known not only for championships, but for character, discipline, and resilience. She taught students how to win with humility and lose with grace. Her commitment to one school for four decades stands as a powerful example of loyalty, service, and purpose. We are proud to recognize Mary Lackey with the Professional Educator Award.

🤩Board Member Spotlight!👏
Meet Dale Ponder, Superintendent of Crane Elementary School District. This is Dale's first year as superintendent, however, he has been with the Crane District in different capacities for the past two decades. Most recently, he served as Chief of Finance & Operations for 11 years. Dale is a past President of the Arizona Association of School Business Officials (AASBO) and a recipient of the William Lovett Memorial Award, given annually to an outstanding member for his/her contribution to the organization. He also serves in leadership roles with several statewide education organizations. "I choose to serve on the Education Foundation of Yuma County Board because I believe education has the power to transform lives and strengthen communities. By recognizing and supporting the incredible work of educators, while fostering partnerships between schools, businesses, and community leaders, the Foundation helps create opportunities that inspire student success and leave a lasting legacy for future generations."

📣Introducing 2025 Hall of Fame Organization: Elsie Jorajuria
She is the recipient of the 2025 Professional Educator Award which is awarded to teachers whose careers reflect historically significant contributions to teaching. For 43 years, Elsie Jorajuria devoted her heart and talent to Mohawk Valley School, including 30 years as a beloved first-grade teacher. Known for her mastery of reading instruction and joyful classroom traditions, she inspired generations of students to love learning. Beyond the classroom, Elsie led cheerleading, student council, character education initiatives, and community programs supporting migrant families. Her leadership, compassion, and commitment earned multiple Teacher of the Year nominations and lasting admiration from students who went on to become leaders themselves. Elsie's career reflects the profound, lifelong impact of an outstanding teacher.

⭐️The Education of Yuma County is now accepting nominations for the Yuma County Education Hall of Fame in all categories. Inductees will be recognized at the Legacy Gala on January 28, 2027 and at the Teacher of the Year Banquet in April 2027.
Nominations must be submitted by November 12, 2026.
