OUR PLAN:
As a non-profit organization, and with personal backgrounds in real estate, business, and psychology, our plan is simple, provide eco-friendly, efficient housing, and assistance for these hometown heroes, and with help throughout the local community, volunteers, VA grants, fundraising events, donations, ect. HOUSING:
North East Florida, Jacksonville specifically is a unique opportunity f
or our project. As a major shipping port, we have access to countless 40ft shipping containers that can be purchased directly from logistical and shipping companies at an extremely low cost. In an effort to be environmentally conscious, eco-friendly, and provide solid housing for these heroes, we have chosen to upcycle these units into modern, efficient, and modular housing units. A single 40ft container unit has about the same square footage that you find in an average hotel room, and with less construction costs. In our research both personally, and from tirelessly reading reviews, blogs, other research, and just about every piece of information we have been able to get our hands on, we also feel that providing a location away from many of the social distractions that many homeless find themselves surround by is a key factor in the success of our transitioning heroes. With taking this into account, our plan involves finding a location in the surrounding area of Jacksonville, to assure that these veterans are given a fair chance at breaking the cycle. All things considered, we have chosen to pursue this project in the Nassau County area for both cost, strategic location, and convenience to the VA health centers, bases, ect. ASSISTANCE:
Our goal is to take housing a step further. By offering our local heroes housing, we are giving them the chance to build their own foundations stronger than before. The VA plays an important role in rehabilitation of Veterans. It is our job to assist with helping these veterans enroll, apply, and working with the VA to ensure that they receive the care that they have earned. In addition to the VA care, and educational benefits, we have contacted various job search agents who specialize in job placement for Veterans, and look to help these individuals capitalize on the skills they learned while serving. It is our vision to see these men and women, become role models within our community. SUMMARY:
As Veterans ourselves, we know all too well the obstacles that arise when transitioning back into the community. We have friends, or better yet family, that we have seen become very successful, as well as those who have become homeless, and even further those that have become part of the 22 per day su***de statistic. We can sit by idly no longer. As Veterans who have transitioned out successfully, and become productive and successful members in our local communities it is our duty, both personally and as a community, to help these heroes become successful, and self-sufficient. With a little help from everyone, we as a community become an unstoppable unit capable of overcoming the largest of obstacles. As General Mattis once put it, “Marines Don’t know how to spell defeat”
