York County Residents: Mark Your Calendars for our next VPPSA Household Chemical Collection Event!

🗓 Saturday, March 14, 2026
⏰ 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍105 Service Drive, Yorktown

Bring household chemicals like paints, fuels, automotive products, lawn & garden items, plus select computer equipment (computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, etc.). Televisions are NOT accepted.

✅ Bonus Services:

On-site Paper Shredding (up to 5 boxes; staples/paperclips OK, no binders or metal objects)
VPPSA staff will unload your vehicle. Proof of residency may be required.

Frozen bodies of water may look safe, but the ice can be dangerously thin and unpredictable. Keep children and pets away from the water and stay off the ice. If you suspect someone has fallen through the ice, call 9-1-1 immediately. Do not attempt a rescue on your own.

🥶If you fall through ice, know how to self-rescue:
1. Control your breathing.
2. Keep your head above water and turn toward the direction you came from.
3. Place arms/hands on the ice and kick your legs to get horizontal.
4. Pull yourself up while kicking.
5. Once on top, roll or crawl away to safety.

MFHA single family homes — trash pickup will be on Tuesday and recycling will be on Wednesday this week.

Waste Management Operations Inclement Weather Update – Sunday, January 25

Due to winter weather, Waste Management Operations are as follows:

The transfer station, citizen garbage drop-off area, and recycling center/metal recycling are closed on Monday, January 26. These areas will reopen at 7am on Tuesday, January 27.

The VPPSA compost Facility is closed on Monday, January 26, and will reopen at 8am on Tuesday, January 27.

Curbside Garbage and Recycling Collections

All curbside collections will run on a 1-day delay during the week of January 26. This is a Blue Week for recycling.

Monday collected on Tuesday (January 27)
Tuesday collected on Wednesday (January 28)
Wednesday collected on Thursday (January 29)
Thursday collected on Friday (January 30)
Friday collected on Saturday (January 31)

For all collections, please place containers at the roadside by 7am. Please continue to check our webpage at www.yorkcounty.gov/578 for updated information about curbside collections.

Our new recycling day is Tuesday, and the first pickup is next Tuesday, January 13. Be sure to check the website for the list of what can and cannot be recycled.

We’re thrilled to announce that curbside recycling collections are back!

Thank you for your patience as the program gets up and running again. We can tell how excited our community is—those recycling containers are full! Collections may take a little longer than usual as crews work through the extra volume, so please leave your containers at the curb until they’re picked up.

We appreciate your understanding and commitment to recycling. Together, we’re making a difference!

Free Christmas Tree Collection Begins Monday, January 5 🎄

York County’s free curbside Christmas tree collection runs Monday, January 5 through Friday, January 9. Place your tree at the roadside by 7 a.m. on Monday, January 5 for pickup during the week.

This service is available to all county communities, including those not enrolled in curbside collection programs. Communities without curbside service must have HOA or management approval and a designated, accessible drop-off site.

Residents may also drop off trees at the VPPSA Compost Facility, 145 Goodwin Neck Road, Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.

✔️ Remove all lights, ornaments, and tinsel
✔️ No tree bags or stands
✔️ Cut trees over 6 feet in half

Updated information about recycling! Check your toter to see if it has the TFC logo on it -- if it does, you need to put it out at the street on Monday so it can be swapped out. More information in the link.

York County participates in a regional curbside recycling program and provides drop-off recycling.
