Albanian Heritage Night at Polar Park

We are invited to join the WooSox on Wednesday, May 20, for a celebration of Albanian culture. Ceremonies begin at 5:15 pm, with the game at 6:05 pm. This evening at the ballpark will highlight the music and traditions of our community while honoring local families and their contributions. President Begaj’s Surprise Visit to Worcester!

President Begaj had been scheduled to attend a late afternoon event in Boston on Saturday. As there was some open time on the President’s schedule, the Albanian Ambassador to the USA reached out to City Hall and requested a visit to Worcester. The Mayor and his team jumped on it with the details being worked out Friday afternoon for a Saturday morning visit. It takes a lot of logistics and planning for the security of a Presidential visit. Great cooperation between the City, St. Mary’s, the Secret Service, Massachusetts State Police and the Worcester Police. They all did an amazing job on short time frame!

A surprise visit to Worcester today by Albanian President Bajram Begaj and Albanian Ambassador to the US Ervin Bushati! The President was welcomed to Worcester by Mayor Joe Petty and several sitting City Councilors at a reception at City Hall. The Mayor presented a Key to the City for President Begaj. There were many local Albanian-American business leaders and community activists in attendance. Prior to the reception President Begaj stopped at St Mary’s Albanian Orthodox Church to learn about the history and current state of the Albanian Community in Worcester.
