A friend of Worcester Firefighters has died.

Andy Solomon passed on Friday, March 31. Andy is a well known local legend. Due to his Jewish faith and heritage, he was laid to rest today.

Often seen, at Jack Barry Little league games, North High Basketball - Andy was a fixture of his neighborhood.

Over the years, he became a friend of many Worcester Firefighters. Sometimes watching them play little league and then go on to careers on the WFD. Andy was a frequent visitor, checking on the “firemen” as Andy would say. He liked Brown Sq, Central Division and then Franklin St.

He got to know quite a lot of us and some of us became quite fond of Andy.

He would always want to know - “what was for lunch?”, “any fires today”, “who’s driving?” And “can I have a coke?”.

Andy had a great memory of all the company rosters and if he hadnt seen you in a while. He might say “Hey, I know you!” In his trademark raspy voice.

Andy was a character who was loved by many Worcester Firefighters and people from all walks of life throughout the city of Worcester.

Godspeed Andy Solomon and wherever you are I hope they have a can of Coke.
