Ascentria Care Alliance

Ascentria Care Alliance Improving the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities facing systemic barriers. What does “Ascentria” mean?

Lutheran Social Services of New England became Ascentria Care Alliance on September 1, 2014. Our new name represents the beginning of a new era for our organization! We define it as “rising together.” In honor of our Christian heritage, it is a blend of “ascension” and “trinity.” Our faith-based legacy remains the heart and soul of our mission, vision and values. With our new name and client-cente

red strategy, we are opening doors to new partnerships that will help us have a greater impact on the lives of our clients and the communities we serve. We’re engaging with the entire faith community, with businesses and nonprofits, to achieve in collaboration much more than we could achieve alone. We are taking a more holistic, comprehensive approach to helping and empowering those we serve. Our new client center on Shattuck Street in Worcester houses many of our programs at one convenient location, so we can better coordinate vital services for our clients. Additional client centers are planned for gateway cities throughout New England.

On August 5, participants in our Young Parent Leadership Program visited Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center and the Lighthouse at Ascentria in Worcester as part of a career exploration experience.

At Quaboag, participants toured the senior living center and its new construction project, gaining insight into the wide range of careers and work environments in senior living. At the Lighthouse, Ascentria's headquarters, they learned more about the organization's programs and services across New England and the many careers that support this work.

These visits offered an opportunity to explore careers that strengthen and support communities. Whether in healthcare, human services, administration, or other fields, participants gained a firsthand look at the many ways individuals can make a meaningful impact through their work.

This Foster Care Friday, we’re looking back at a pretty unforgettable day.

Youth from Ascentria’s refugee foster care program had the opportunity to experience the 2026 FIFA World Cup — and these snapshots, taken by the youth themselves on disposable cameras, capture some of the fun along the way.

We’re incredibly grateful to the people and partners who made this special opportunity possible for the youth we serve. Thank you for giving them a World Cup experience and memories to carry with them long after the final whistle.

On August 7th, residents, family, staff, and friends came together for the Florence House Summer Cookout at our Worcester home for young families. The afternoon was filled with food, music, face painting, children's activities, and plenty of summer fun!

Beyond the food and festivities, the cookout provided a special opportunity to connect, celebrate our community, and make joyful memories with the young families we serve. We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to such a wonderful and successful day!

As the crisis surrounding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) continues, organizations and leaders across Worcester are coming together to support affected communities and coordinate a response.

Since the group’s first meeting on July 7 at Mayor Petty’s office, the coalition has grown to include legislators, community organizations, service providers and local partners. Ascentria is among those participating in these ongoing conversations, which focus on sharing resources and information, addressing immediate needs, and developing longer-term strategies.

The collaboration reflects a shared commitment across the Worcester community to connect resources, respond to emerging needs, and support individuals and families affected by changes to TPS.

What makes Ascentria special?

Ask our employees, and you’ll hear a common theme: it’s the people. From the diverse communities we serve to the colleagues we work alongside, connection, camaraderie, and community are at the heart of what we do.

August at Ascentria Foster Care means wrapping up the summer season and looking ahead to the new school year. For many youth in our Refugee & Immigrant Foster Care Programs, this also means getting ready and excited for soccer tryouts! Soccer reminds us that every young person deserves more than just a place to stay—they deserve a place where they feel safe, supported, encouraged, and included.

Just like on a soccer team, youth need people in their corner who will cheer them on, guide them through challenges, celebrate their progress, and remind them that they do not have to face life alone. Whether it is a coach, a teacher, a mentor, or most importantly, a foster parent - caring adults truly make a different in helping our youth in foster care to feel like they belong.
