Pancreatic Cancer Alliance

Pancreatic Cancer Alliance We support the efforts of the medical and research communities as well as patients and their loved ones in the battle against pancreatic cancer.

The Pancreatic Cancer Alliance (PCA) was founded in October of 2003 and has helped build the Pancreas program at UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Cancer Center in Worcester, MA. We are an all volunteer organization that operates under the UMass Chan Medical School Foundation's 501 (c) 3. Because of the umbrella that we work under, we have no operating costs and can maintain our mission to d

onate 100% of all funds raised to research, patient support, awareness and education. Our fundraising efforts have raised over $3.5000,000.00. We continue to fund research and trials hoping to advance early detection methods and life expectancy. A high-risk pancreatic cancer clinic opened in 2013 with the help of the Alliance. Patient care, advocacy, and improved outcomes are also a main focus of the PCA. In 2016, The PCA became a founding member of the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition (WPCC). As of 2025, there are over 110 member organizations from 39 countries on 6 continents. The WPCC meets annually to discuss best practices, advancements and share resources. Currently, the meetings are virtual. Pancreatic Cancer is the 3rd leading cause of cancer deaths in the US. It is the toughest cancer to treat.

"The results presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting for Revolution Medicine’s drug daraxonrasib represent the most significant advance we have ever seen in . For a disease that has long been marked by limited treatment options and often devastating outcomes, seeing a therapy double overall survival in previously treated metastatic pancreatic cancer patients is very encouraging. AND we are told that we will be getting it at UMass Memorial CanUMass Memorial Medical Centery soon. πŸ’œπŸ€žπŸ™

A new therapy that targets RAS mutations present in more than 90% of patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma β€” the most common type of pancreatic cancer β€” approximately doubles overall survival according to clinical trial results announced today. πŸ§ͺ

Revolution Medicines shared Phase III clinical trial results for a pill called daraxonrasib in patients with previously treated metastatic . For decades, RAS was considered β€œundruggable,” meaning that there was no effective way to target RAS. These results greatly expand the potential benefit of targeted therapies for patients with pancreatic cancer.

PanCAN Chief Scientific and Medical Officer Anna Berkenblit, MD, MMSc, shares, β€œWe are standing at the threshold of groundbreaking treatments for patients with pancreatic cancer. Today’s announcement represents a real opportunity to bring new hope for people facing this disease: hope for more time with family, hope for better quality of life and hope that ongoing and future research may ultimately lead to a cure.” πŸ’œ

Next, Revolution Medicines will need to take their data to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). If the FDA grants approval for daraxonrasib, it will be made available as a treatment for patients with metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma who have been previously treated.

At our symposium on Thursday, William Freed Pastor, MD, Ph.D spoke about new research from Dana-Farber’s Hale Family Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research and how they’re paving the way toward earlier detection and more effective treatments for pancreatic cancer.
By using AI to spot early warning signs, developing groundbreaking RAS-targeted therapies and novel immunotherapies, we are entering β€œan amazing new era” in pancreatic cancer care.
