Keva Nyarko, a UMass Memorial Medical Center patient and proud new mom, partnered with doula Jessica Delgado on her birth journey into motherhood.

This Doula Week, read what this mother had to share about her experience and about welcoming her baby girl Zahné Maxyn (pictured).

"I decided to work with a doula because a friend recommended Jessica—she had an amazing experience with her! Before working with Jessica, I didn’t know much about birth; I only knew about vaginal and C-section births. Jessica educated me on the induction process, different pain relief options, and so much more. During our prenatal appointments, we discussed my preferences for my birth experience, which made me feel so much more prepared when labor began. Jessica is knowledgeable, experienced, and incredibly patient. She was a strong advocate for me in the hospital, gave me confidence, and made me feel safe knowing she was by my side. If you’re pregnant and thinking about having a doula, I would say—just go for it! Having a doula was one of the best decisions I made, and I don’t regret it at all."
