“I didn’t want to put her in my car,” Threatt explained. “She said she was walking to school, so I walked with her to make sure she got there.”

Joshua Threatt, a Detroit native, drew national attention after helping a 6-year-old girl he saw walking to school on a cold morning. Concerned for her safety, Threatt noticed the child did not have a hat or gloves and decided to walk with her more than ten blocks to Thirkell Elementary School to ensure she arrived safely. Threatt said he contacted authorities before continuing to es**rt the child and later spoke with her mother.

The moment resonated with many people, sparking conversations about community responsibility and looking out for children. After the story spread, supporters encouraged Threatt to start a GoFundMe campaign to help provide gifts and support for children in the community. “Anything is a blessing,” he wrote. “I never intended to make one of these, but so many people told me to do it.” As of the latest update, the fundraiser has raised nearly $11,000, reflecting widespread appreciation for his actions. Reflecting on the experience, Threatt said he was grateful he was there. “I was just glad I saw her and could make sure she was safe.”

Thanks to Worcester Public Schools - Worcester, MA and Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce for hosting this.

Our Program Director and Workforce Director were excited to attend.

Workforce development is a major growth area for us this year.

We’re looking to partner with organizations that offer paid, hard-skill training so we can scale the impact of Legacy Transport together.

Our participants finish our program ready for advanced technical training and direct-to-employment pathways.

If you’re building workforce pipelines and interested in pursuing larger, collaborative grants, let’s talk.

Feeding a community. Creating opportunity. Leaving a Legacy

Today, we celebrate the graduation of our Legacy Transport Program participants a cohort that showed up with consistency, professionalism, and purpose.

Over a six-month period (June 10 – December 24, 2025), this group transported 642,143.5 pounds of food from the Worcester County Food Bank to five local food pantries, helping ensure families across our region had access to food when they needed it most.

📊 The impact tells the story:
• 87% overall attendance
• Strong ratings for communication (4.36) and attitude (4.39)
• Two-thirds of participants secured full-time employment

Investment in this program has a dual impact.

🍎 Food insecurity is real and growing.
Across the U.S., more than 47 million people, including 14 million children, experience food insecurity. In Massachusetts, over 1 in 3 households now struggles to consistently access food.

💼 At the same time, employment is stability.

This program doesn’t just move food. It builds job readiness, work history, accountability, and confidence translating into real employment outcomes for participants.

Our graduates are doing their part:
✔️ Strengthening the food system
✔️ Showing what reliability and commitment look like
✔️ Stepping into the workforce with momentum

👏 To our graduates: You earned this. Your work mattered. Your growth shows.
👏 To our partners: Thank you for believing in solutions that serve both people and community needs.

This is what happens when we invest in people and systems at the same time.

Knowledge is power! ✊🏾

This week, in partnership with the Attorney General’s Office, we hosted a Know Your Rights training. Our participants and staff were empowered with critical knowledge about their rights, regardless of background, especially as it relates to housing and employment.

Special thank you to .bank for sponsoring this impactful event and helping make this opportunity possible.

When reincarceration rates are treated as the sole measure of success, we undervalue the work formerly incarcerated people do to heal and confront their traumas.

The City of Worcester recently issued a proclamation recognizing the work of Legendary Legacies.

This moment matters and so does the clarity around it.

Legendary Legacies Inc did not begin as a program or a polished organization. It began as a calling. What started as an idea grew into a vocation, and over time has revealed itself as a ministry rooted in public safety, violence prevention, and community building.

This recognition honors the collective work of a team that shows up in moments most people never see.

The emotional labor.
The late-night calls.
The hospital waiting rooms.
The courtrooms.
The living rooms.

The steady presence when someone is standing at the edge of crisis and needs another human being to help them take one more step forward.

We are incredibly grateful to the Reliant Foundation for investing in the work of Legendary Legacies and the communities we serve. This kind of trust and partnership means more than words can capture.

At a time when nonprofits everywhere are being asked to do more with less, this support is not just financial, it is affirming. It tells our staff, our participants, and our families that this work matters. That prevention matters. That second chances matter. That community-led solutions matter.

Because of this support, we can continue showing up in real ways for people navigating reentry, workforce development, violence interruption, and healing. We don’t take that responsibility lightly.
