We are saddened by the passing of Sumner "Tony" Tilton Jr., one of Greater Worcester Community Foundation’s founders, former president and longtime supporter.

In the mid-1970s, Tony helped establish the Foundation, creating new opportunities for local philanthropy and community investment. His commitment continued for decades, including through the Sumner B. Tilton Memorial Scholarship Fund, which Tony created with his sister in honor of their father. Since 1998, the fund has awarded more than $2.1 million to 252 students.

As we celebrated our 50th anniversary last year, Tony reflected on the Foundation’s growth, calling it a “rousing success”. That success is due in no small part to the vision and dedication of Tony and his fellow founders.

We are grateful for his lasting contributions to Greater Worcester Community Foundation and the Worcester community and extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
