Yesterday, we had the privilege of hearing from Emily Henderson, a graduate of Alabama State University and the University of Connecticut School of Social Work, as we gathered to celebrate Juneteenth at Abby's House.

Emily shared her experience attending an HBCU - the pride, the community, and the profound sense of belonging that comes from being educated in spaces built for and by Black excellence. It was a powerful reminder that when people are truly seen and supported, they thrive.

That's the heart of Juneteenth - a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing work of building a more just and equitable world. At Abby's House, that is something we carry with us every day, especially in our commitment to serving women impacted by systemic injustice.

Please note that our main offices and Thrift Shop will be closed today, Friday June 19th, in observance of Juneteenth. We wish everyone a meaningful holiday.

50 years of standing in the doorway with our arms open. 💙
This is us yesterday, dressed head to toe in every color of the rainbow, because Pride Month isn't something we observe from a distance.
We see, every day, how housing insecurity hits LGBTQIA+ individuals harder than most. So when we say everyone deserves a safe place to call home, we mean it without exception. That's the work. That's been the work for 50 years.
Proud to stand with our LGBTQIA+ community - today, this month, always. 🏳️‍🌈

We raised $270,000 because of you.

That number belongs to every sponsor who believed in this mission, every donor who gave, every auction bidder who went all in, every volunteer who showed up, every board member who leads with heart, every staff member who gives everything to this work, and every supporter who has stood by Abby's House - for a night, for a year, or for all 50.

Because of you, more women in Worcester will wake up somewhere safe and know they aren't doing it alone. We are so grateful. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Overflowing with generosity. 💛
We're temporarily pausing donation drop-offs at the Abby's House Thrift Shop through Monday, June 15th. Drop-offs resume Tuesday, June 16th.
Here's the honest reason: our processing area is beyond capacity, and it's not safe for our staff and volunteers to keep working through it. And when we're this overwhelmed, we have to run sales to move items faster - which means less revenue going back to the women and children we serve.
Your generosity literally fuels this mission. We just need a minute to catch up so it can.
The shop is still open for shopping Monday–Saturday, 10am–3pm. See you on the 16th. 💛

Annette Rafferty and the founders started something extraordinary.

Fifty years later, this is what it looks like: residents & guests, former residents, volunteers, sponsors, donors, staff, advocates, and all the people who show up and stay. These people are all responsible for keeping this work going in very real ways.

The 50th Anniversary Gala might be over, but the work isn’t.

To all of those who made this happen, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It’s because of you that the next person who walks through our doors will be able to say, “I Am Abby’s House,” too.

We are so proud.

At our 50th Anniversary Gala on May 29th, we presented the very first Light Keeper Award, a new honor recognizing a staff member who serves as a beacon of advocacy within our community.

This year, that award went to Shayla Halloran, one of our Women's Advocates, whose dedication to the women and families we serve is something we are grateful for every single day.

Congratulations, Shayla. You are exactly what this award was made for.

Want to learn more about the milestone evening and the 50 years of work that brought us here? We were recently featured in The Worcester Guardian, and we would love for you to read it.
