Matt's Lego Drive for Kids with Cancer

Matt's Lego Drive for Kids with Cancer We learn to be creative, imaginative, and some of us even learn to follow instructions through building with them.

Matt's Lego Drive was established in December 2020 and aims to collect Lego sets to donate to local hospitals and organizations treating pediatric cancer patients. Matt Laramie, a sales manager at North End Motor Sales in Worcester, was inspired to begin the collection by his friend, Amanda, who is a Child Life Specialist at the Children's Hospital at Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Bruns

wick, NJ. He asked her how he could help her young patients and when she sent him back a wish list, he bought several Legos, Barbies, and art supplies and shipped them to her at the hospital. Laramie didn’t think much beyond the initial donation until he received a message from Amanda sharing how much a six-year-old patient was affected by and enjoyed one of the Lego sets he had donated.

“It was a great feeling that something so small made a difference that day,” he said. Laramie decided he would set up a drive with the goal of filling up the back of his truck, a goal he estimates would take 200 Lego sets.

“To me, Legos are nostalgic as they bring many of us back to our childhoods,” he explained. “They are the first building blocks for many of our lives. These kids are at the hospital many times and sometimes for very long days, and building with Legos can help keep their minds off of the anxiety, fear, and pain they are experiencing.”

Laramie said he has received donations from friends and family as well as complete strangers. And while this began at the holidays, it’s a drive Laramie hopes to continue with the hope of reaching as many pediatric cancer patients as possible in Worcester, Boston, and New Jersey. Individuals can purchase from his Amazon Wish List, or drop off locally at UMass or North End Motor Sales, 927 West Boylston St.

Three years ago, when Olivia was born, I started a tradition that means the world to me ❤️

Every year on her birthday and before Christmas, we bring her to WHY ME to donate LEGO sets to other kids. From the very beginning, I wanted to teach her how important it is to be kind, to give, and to understand how good it feels to do something for someone else 🙏

WHY ME is truly an incredible foundation. The work they do for children and families going through the unimaginable is nothing short of amazing. The emotional and financial support they provide is something our community is so lucky to have 💛

I feel beyond blessed to have met Rebecca and the entire team there — they are absolute angels. The kindness, compassion, and love they show these families is something you don’t forget ✨

LEGOs might seem simple, but they make a huge impact. They help reduce anxiety, give kids a sense of control, improve motor skills, and most importantly… they bring smiles during some really tough moments 🧱💙

I loved LEGOs as a kid, and there’s nothing better than seeing that same joy in others. That’s why we chose LEGO sets as the gift to give 🎁

If you’re looking for a way to help, please consider supporting WHY ME and everything they do 🙌
AND if you’d like to be part of Matt’s LEGO Drive for Kids with Cancer — we collect LEGO donations ALL YEAR LONG ❤️

Let’s keep spreading kindness, one set at a time 🧱💫

💙 A Huge Thank You to Tiff, Martine & Mike 💙

I want to take a moment to give an enormous thank you to Tiff, Martine, and Mike for their many, many generous donations to Matt’s LEGO Drive. Your support came in so many shipments and drop-offs that I honestly lost track of the total number of sets, but what I didn’t lose track of is how grateful I am for every single one.

Each set you donated is going to end up in the hands of a child who could really use a distraction, a sense of normalcy, and a reason to smile. That’s what this is all about, and your kindness plays a huge role in making that happen.

While I’m incredibly grateful to have surpassed this year’s goal, I collect and donate LEGO all year long. This cause doesn’t stop when the goal is reached,so please keep me in mind anytime you see a set, think of the drive, or want to help make a kid’s day a little brighter.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. 🙏🧱💙
