LIVING THE VOLUNTEER SPIRIT
Local Woman’s Club – Please join us
(Minocqua/Woodruff, WI) – Enthusiastic, energized, and excited summed up a local woman’s reaction upon learning that there was an organization which embodied volunteerism and philanthropy internationally but was as close as a visitor to her workplace. The late Kristin Kanzelberger, Woodruff Town Hall employee, was “just doing her jo
b” as she recently prepared the paperwork for the rental of the Woodruff Town Hall for an upcoming event. The woman wanting to rent the facility seemed very excited about her organization and the opportunity to bring a group of more than 100 women volunteers to the Northwoods for three days of learning, leadership training, and fun in the fall of 2018. Kristin’s interest was piqued after being invited to join the woman’s local club. She did a little investigation regarding the largest and oldest international organization of women volunteers, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), and she was sold! Disappointed but not dissuaded to join just because she wouldn’t be able to attend any day meetings, she was then given the opportunity to consider forming a new club that would meet the needs of women such as herself, the young, working professional, or stay at home mom, and meet in the evenings to do so. Kristin took the ball and ran with it, contacting a few friends and colleagues to pitch the idea. The result is an informational recruitment event to form a new GFWC club in the Lakeland area. The club members themselves will choose projects that are relevant and that will make an impact in the Lakeland communities of Minocqua, Woodruff, Hazelhurst, Harshaw, Lac du Flambeau, St. Germain, Arbor Vitae, Lake Tomahawk and the Manitowish areas and beyond. Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this effort that will draw its strength from the rich history and unlimited resources of a parent organization that’s been doing this work for over 125 years, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs! We meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6pm at the Generations Senior Center in Woodruff. About the General Federation of Women’s Clubs www.GFWC.org
