🤩 30th Anniversary Gala Award Announcement and Tickets 🤩

In honor of our 30th anniversary in 2026, we are hosting the DPC 30th Anniversary Gala on November 19th at Artists for Humanity in Boston. This is a milestone celebration, so the event will look a little different from our typical annual events.

The biggest change for this year is that, instead of presenting three awards to outstanding leaders in the disability community, we have decided to present just one award in 2026 - the Visionary Changemaker Award.

And we are thrilled to announce that the recipient of the 2026 Visionary Changemaker Award is...Charlie Carr!

Charlie is a legend in the disability advocacy space. Long before DPC existed, his leadership was already helping shape the disability rights movement in Massachusetts and across the country. As one of DPC’s founders, he brought that vision to an organization that has had a meaningful impact on the lives of so many people. His influence extends far beyond DPC itself, and his work over the years has built the foundation of the disability rights movement we see today. In his current role as DPC's Legislative Liaison, Charlie's leadership and example continue to guide our community-based advocacy.

There is truly no one more deserving of this award - congratulations, Charlie! 👏

We hope you'll join us in November to celebrate Charlie and 30 years of the DPC. To learn more about the event and secure your ticket today, please visit dpcma.org/dpc-30-gala

Stay tuned for more exciting Gala updates! 👀

Please reach out to [email protected] with any questions about the 30th Anniversary Gala.

Happy Why REquipment Wednesday

In March, REquipment provided a knee scooter to a veteran in Northampton. He was anticipating two ankle surgeries, and insurance wouldn't cover the equipment that could make his life so much easier.

"It has made a world of difference getting around," David wrote to us. "I use it at home and also in the community. It helps me get out of the house. So thankful for it!"

REquipment provides gently used, refurbished durable medical equipment and assistive technology at no charge. No insurance or prescription necessary. If you live in MA, you're eligible.

Thank you to the Massachusetts Senate for passing Amendment 548. Next stop is the Conference Committee!

What does this mean for funding the REquipment Durable Medical Equipment and Assistive Technology Reuse Program?

As many of you are aware, the final House budget proposal for FY27 fails to include the earmark needed to level fund REquipment. Without that $500K, REquipment faces an unsustainable 35.7% cut to the program's operating budget.

Thankfully, the Senate's budget restores the program's earmark and funding.

But we're not out of the woods yet.

The differences between the House and Senate budgets will now be negotiated in the Joint House and Senate Conference Committee. REquipment will need one final push of advocacy to ensure people with disabilities across Massachusetts can continue accessing essential durable medical equipment and assistive technology in FY27.

Your advocacy matters. Your advocacy is making all the difference.

Happy Why REquipment Wednesday

In March, a young woman in E Wareham requested a power wheelchair from REquipment. "I currently don't have insurance," she wrote, "as there was a lapse and I don't have the money for a power chair."

After a seizure more than a year ago, she'd lost feeling from her chest to her toes and in her right arm. Since then, operating a manual chair has been impossible.

"If I had a power wheelchair, I could go out into the community alone, take the disability bus, and this could be life-changing. I would even be able to get a job, which would be so cool because I haven't worked in over a year."

Five days later, REquipment delivered her a Permobile F3 Corpus with new batteries.

"I want to thank you guys for this amazing program," she wrote to us. "Because what you guys are doing is truly wonderful."

Thank you to our generous reuse community for donating your equipment and money and making these stories possible. And for contacting your state reps and senators to keep our funding whole.

As the proverb says, "A stick in a bundle cannot be broken."

Did you know? Last year, nearly half of REquipment’s devices were provided to Massachusetts residents ages 65 and older.

During Older Americans Month, we’re proud to highlight how access to durable medical equipment and assistive technology can support independence, safety, and community access.

In FY25 alone, REquipment distributed:

• 549 manual wheelchairs
• 173 power wheelchairs
• 249 shower chairs
• 137 bath benches
• 282 rollators
• 97 sling lifts
• 40 power scooters

…plus hundreds more devices across many categories.

Every donated device is diverted from disposal, cleaned and refurbished, and provided free to Massachusetts residents who need it.

One recipient from Sturbridge shared:

“I am so thankful and amazed at how wonderful my electric chair is. I can go get my mail now. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Stories like this remind us that the right device can restore freedom, dignity, and everyday access.

If you need equipment — or have devices you no longer use — visit DMEreuse.org to learn more.

Thank you to State Senator Michael D. Brady for sponsoring Amendment 548 to level-fund the REquipment Durable Medical Equipment and Assistive Technology Reuse Program in FY27.

To pass this amendment, we need cosponsors, and we are grateful to Senator Robyn Kennedy , Senator Adam Gomez , Barrett, Senator Becca Rausch , State Senator Bill Driscoll Jr. , State Senator Vanna Howard , Senator Jamie Eldridge , Sen Dylan Fernandes, and Sen Paul Mark for their support.

If your state senator is missing from this list, please help prevent an unsustainable 35.7% cut to the REquipment program budget.

Take 2 mins to contact your state senator at tinyurl.com/REQadvocacy and help keep tons of valuable wheelchairs, shower chairs, rollators, and more from needless disposal, and with state residents who urgently need them.

As always, thank you for building and sustaining this incredible reuse community.

"When Jen Bruni approached her hairdresser, Candice, to run the Boston Marathon for REquipment, Candice wasn’t sure at first.

'I was recovering from surgery, and I only have so many marathons left on this ankle,' she said. 'I have my sights set on world marathons.'

But then Christmas rolled around, and Candice saw how heartbroken Jen and her husband were to be facing the holiday, their first since their son Sandro’s life had been cut short by cancer..." 05/14/2026

The amendment to level-fund the REquipment Durable Medical Equipment and Assistive Technology Reuse Program (DMEreuse.org) has failed in the House. But our funding is still being decided in the Massachusetts State Senate. Please take action today.

State Senator Michael D. Brady has filed Amendment 548 to restore the $500K needed to prevent a devastating 35.7% cut to REquipment's budget. (Thank you!)

There are currently just four cosponsors to Amendment 548: Senator Robyn Kennedy, Senator Adam Gomez, Senator Becca Rausch, and Barrett.

Where is yours??

If you can't imagine Massachusetts without the REquipment Reuse Program, please act now and visit tinyurl.com/REQadvocacy

It takes just a moment to help preserve the program that keeps millions of dollars' worth of equipment from being tossed away. Last year, REquipment refurbished and distributed $4.2 million in DME and AT to state residents with disabilities, including seniors, children, and veterans.

Please take 2 mins and visit tinyurl.com/REQadvocacy

Thank you for all you do!
