These Young Designers learned about the federal court system from two federal judges in Atlanta, Judge Jones and Judge Ross. The judges taught them about their roles as district court judges and law clerks taught them about the difference between civil and criminal cases. The girls also watched the sentencing of a 48 year old man guilty of selling drugs (10 years in jail, then 5 years probation). Later, they took turns sitting in the judge's chair. To top it all off, a delicious lunch was prepared by the federal court chef just for the girls. Before the meal, they were given an etiquette class emphasizing the importance of good table manners: "You are invited to the table because people are interested in you. Poor table manners could keep you from being invited back." This day was especially important for the three girls who had already decided they want to be lawyers. Thank you Judge Jones for making this day possible.
