Introducing our WEMSA Board Spotlight series! Over the coming months, we will be highlighting each of our board members to give you a better insight into who your representatives are, what drives them, and why they serve Wisconsin EMS.

We are kicking things off with a special thank you to Evelynn Dax, Paramedic/Critical Care & Vice President, WEMSA Board of Directors, as her term comes to an end this month after six years of dedication to the association.

Evelynn has been in EMS since 2007, and was inspired by her stepfather who was a first responder and police officer that would drop everything to help a stranger the moment his pager went off. Starting as an EMT-B, she has gone on to work with Washburn Ambulance, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, and Tomah Ambulance, earning her Paramedic/Critical Care certification and credentials as an EMS Instructor I & II and AHA Instructor along the way.

Evelynn joined the WEMSA board in 2020 and has served on the education committee, including as co-chair, and most recently as Vice President. She believes WEMSA is essential because "our providers face increasing demands, shrinking resources, and rising expectations. Representation helps ensure that both small volunteer services and large metropolitan systems receive fair support, funding, and recognition."
Thank you, Evelynn, for everything you have given to WEMSA and to EMS providers across Wisconsin. We are grateful for your leadership, your advocacy, and your six years of service to this board.

On Saturday, June 27 from Noon-6pm, All EMS providers, active-duty military personnel and veterans, police, and fire (along with up to four family members) arriving between 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. who present a valid Military ID, copy or photo of a DD-214 form, driver’s license with Veteran classification, law enforcement or fire department agency-issued credentials at the designated turnstile at any gate will be admitted for FREE to Summerfest! Police and fire union ID cards will also be accepted with a photo ID.

This free, members-only webinar brings together two clinical experts for a deep dive into asthma in the field, covering pathophysiology, triggers, prehospital assessment, severity classification, pharmacological interventions, and management of life-threatening status asthmaticus. The session also includes Wisconsin-specific asthma surveillance data and special considerations for pediatric and elderly patients, plus practical tools including ETCO2 monitoring, the Pediatric Assessment Triangle, and the PASS and PRAM severity scoring systems. May was Asthma Awareness Month, and with air quality alerts already making their return across Wisconsin, there's no better time to sharpen your prehospital asthma skills.

This month's WEMSA member webinar brings together two experts for a clinical deep dive into asthma management in the field. Dr. Callie Krentz, Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellow at the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin /'s Wisconsin, will walk through pathophysiology, common triggers, prehospital assessment, severity classification, pharmacological interventions, and recognition and management of life-threatening status asthmaticus. Joining her is Megan Elderbrook, MPH, CHES, Research Scientist and Epidemiologist with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Asthma Program, who will bring Wisconsin-specific asthma surveillance data to the conversation, including current prevalence rates and emergency department visit trends across populations.

The webinar also covers special considerations for pediatric and elderly patients, along with practical tools EMS providers can use in the field, including ETCO2 monitoring, the Pediatric Assessment Triangle, and the PASS and PRAM severity scoring systems.

This webinar is free and exclusively available to WEMSA members, and is accredited for 1 CEU.

🚑🕯️ TODAY: Annual Legacy Stone Dedication Ceremony 🕯️🚑

The day is finally here! Please join us TODAY, June 13th, at 10:30 am as we gather to honor our living and fallen heroes.

During today's special program, each newly inscribed Legacy Stone will be presented to its respective family, fire department, or rescue squad before being permanently set in its designated location. The Wisconsin Fire and EMS Memorial Honor Guard will be present to lead us in this solemn tradition.

This year, 15 Legacy Stones will be dedicated representing first responders from:

🚒 Brookfield Fire Department

We are incredibly honored to welcome participants of the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride Midwest Route, who are pedaling into our event today from their starting point in Stevens Point. These dedicated cyclists are joining us to honor and call out approximately 80 names during the ceremony.

Where was WEMSA this Wednesday? Exhibiting at the 2026 Fox Valley RTAC Symposium in Oshkosh!

The Symposium is a regional interdisciplinary education event bringing together EMS professionals, nurses, physicians, trauma program leaders, emergency managers, and public safety partners from across Northeast Wisconsin. We heard from some really amazing local and regional speakers and it was great to connect with the folks doing this work on the ground every day.

We had a great visit today at Richfield Fire Department! Thank you to Chief Greg West, Captain Chase Browne, and their staff for the warm welcome and the full tour of their department.

We had a really meaningful conversation covering legislative changes and priorities, county-wide systems, and statewide shifts that will shape the future of EMS across Wisconsin. Chief West was recently reappointed to his sixth three-year term on the State EMS Board, and it’s easy to see why. He’s a tremendous resource, and we always come away from conversations with him better informed.

Visits like this are a big part of what WEMSA is about. Getting out from behind the desk and connecting directly with the people doing the work. We appreciate Richfield Fire for taking the time to chat with us today!
