☀️🦉💙 Even on Grey Sky Days, We Can Be the Sunshine on Someone’s Cloudiest Day 💙🦉☀️

I originally wanted to post this on Sunday, but life has been moving at full speed ever since last week’s storms.

Between responding to storm-related needs in our communities, teaching Babysitting Certification classes, filming Adventures with Trish, sitting in on a REALTOR® ethics hearing, attending the grand opening of the new HomeSmart office in Downers Grove this evening, and squeezing in my own doctor appointments, I haven’t had a chance to slow down and share this special moment.

Despite experiencing power outages ourselves, The Giving Nest opened its doors for a special Father’s Day art workshop. That’s what emergency responders, community leaders, and Girl Scout leaders do—we adapt, improvise, and continue serving others when they need us most.

The children created adorable Father’s Day gifts filled with love, laughter, and imagination. For a few hours, they were able to focus on creating memories instead of worrying about storms, power outages, and cleanup efforts happening around them.

A very special thank you to Carmen Casillas, award-winning artist, creative educator, and community volunteer, for generously donating her time and talents to teach and host this wonderful workshop. The smiles on the children’s faces said it all!

🚨🦉💙 GREY SKY ALERT UPDATE – BCA Hub Edition 💙🦉🚨

The National Weather Service has updated today’s severe weather forecast.

⚠️ The highest threat for significant severe weather, including wind gusts over 75 mph and strong tornadoes, has shifted farther south following this morning’s storms.

📍 The greatest risk is now focused mainly near and south of a Pontiac, IL to Rensselaer, IN line.

However, northern Illinois and northwest Indiana are NOT in the clear.

⛈️ A severe weather threat remains across the entire region, including the potential for another round of storms later this evening.

Main concerns:
🌬️ Damaging winds
🌪️ Isolated tornadoes
🌳 Downed trees and power lines
⚡ Additional power outages

As many families are still recovering from last week’s confirmed EF-2 tornado and widespread storm damage, now is the time to stay weather aware.

✅ Charge phones and power banks
✅ Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts
✅ Move vehicles away from trees
✅ Review your shelter plan
✅ Check on seniors, neighbors, and those with special needs

Remember: storms can change quickly. Do not focus only on the colored risk maps. Pay attention to watches, warnings, and changing conditions throughout the day.

The talk of the town is no longer who danced with whom at last evening’s ball, but rather the tempest that swept through our neighborhoods last week.

It has now been confirmed that the storm of June 11 produced an EF-2 tornado, leaving behind damaged homes, fallen trees, crushed carriages (or in modern terms, automobiles), and thousands without power. While many families are still recovering, society now finds itself watching the skies once again as another round of storms approaches.

One can only hope today’s weather proves less dramatic than forecasted. However, as Lady Hootington often reminds her readers, preparedness is far more fashionable than panic.

Since 2018, The BCA Hub has quietly answered the call when disaster strikes. As a 100% volunteer-powered, self-funded nonprofit organization, we provide emergency assistance to babies, toddlers, children, teens, seniors, and families impacted by tornadoes, flooding, severe weather, fires, and other unexpected hardships.

As many families are still recovering, cleaning up, and dealing with the aftermath of last week’s storms, the National Weather Service is already monitoring another round of potentially severe weather for Wednesday, including flash flooding, damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes.

Now is the time to prepare—not panic.

✅ Charge devices and power banks
✅ Check flashlights and batteries
✅ Review your emergency plans
✅ Restock emergency supplies
✅ Move vehicles away from trees
✅ Make sure sump pumps are working

The BCA Hub is already assisting families impacted by recent storms, and additional severe weather could increase the need for emergency supplies, hygiene products, baby essentials, comfort kits, and disaster relief resources.
