Facing Hunger Foodbank Hosts Senator Justice & His Washington DC Team for Mingo Food Distribution Thursday, August 20 1:00-2:00pm
Senator Jim Justice keeps helping Facing Hunger Food Bank and the communities at the center of our work. This time, he has brought help by dedicating his Washington, DC based team to come to West Virginia during the week of August 17th. The latest event with the food bank will be held Thursday, August 20th between 1:00pm-2:00pm when the Senator and his team will assist in a free produce distribution to be held at the Moore Building, located at 1523 W. 3rd Avenue, Williamson.
This distribution is the second event scheduled with the food bank in this week, as the Senator’s team worked with the food bank staff to support a food distribution at Nighbert Food Pantry in Logan WV on Monday, August 17th.
The Nighbert Food Pantry was holding their regular distribution, and with the support of the Senator’s staff, over 240 households were served a large variety of shelf stabe products and meat. Pantry leadership including Donald McCloud, students from Logan County High School and several volunteers from Recovery Group of Southern West Virginia made easy work of filling the cars as they moved through the parking lot, some having arrived at 3:00am to secure a spot to ensure they were able to receive these needed food resources.
Senator Justice advocated for and achieved approval of Congressionally Directed Spending funds of $1.103 million to support the food bank creating a distribution center in Mingo County, and the selection & purchase of a building is in progress. This facility will ultimately employ 10-15 local team members and provide support to Mingo county and the 44 food pantry partners throughout the southern coalfields. A ground breaking ceremony will be held in October once the purchase is complete.
