White Lake Junior Golf Foundation

WLJGF started as an idea to promote the future of this great sport, our youth.

The WLJGF's mission is to engage White Lake area youth in the game of golf while developing integrity, self-confidence, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love of the game. With that in mind, we plan to conduct professionally run teaching clinics at WLGC that focus on the fundamentals of the game while also teaching proper sportsmanship, etiquette, and course management. In order to provide the best su

pport to our youth, we hope to provide golf equipment, improve the WLGC teaching facilities, and increase support for the local White Lake area High School teams.

Meet the Board | Karel Bailey

Karel spent 37 years teaching and coaching at North Muskegon High School, driven by her passion for working with youth. She is a longtime member of WLGC and a former Ladies Association chair; she can often be found at the course or range. She joined the WLJG Foundation board in 2024 and has focused on positively influencing youth through golf, including leading the first free girls’ golf clinic in 2025.

Meet the Board | Valerie Vihtelic

Valerie began her golf journey at WLGC, becoming an All-State Golfer at Whitehall High School before playing collegiate golf at Aquinas College. She returned to the White Lake area, met her husband on the WLGC course, and is a mother of two young boys. She is passionate about encouraging young women in golf and is one of the original board members, having previously served as Secretary.

Meet the Board | Eric Dobry

Eric grew up enjoying the outdoors and competitive golf and still competes in local tournaments today. He lives in North Muskegon along with his wife and two children. He is a long-standing member of WLGC and joined the WLJG Foundation board in 2023, driven by his passion for junior golf.

Meet the Board | John Kerschen

John is President of Charter Capital, a Grand Rapids-based investment banking firm, and is a White Lake native and longtime WLGC member. He returned to the area in 2022 with his wife and has served on the WLJG Foundation board since 2024, recently taking over the secretary position. His passion for junior golf was inspired by his own daughters’ love of the game.

Meet the Board | Randy Lindquist

Randy is the superintendent at the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District. He has more than 30 years in education as a teacher and an administrator, and grew up in the White Lake area. He is a member of WLGC and has been on the WLJG Foundation since its inception in 2021 serving as the Treasurer.

Meet the Board | Frank Wierengo

Frank is a lifelong golfer and a founding member of the WLJG Foundation. Frank was originally from the Muksegon area and returned to West Michigan with his wife after a manufacturing career in Houston, Texas. He has served as President since the foundation was formed in 2020.
