On this Veterans Day, AFSCME Council 4 honors the courage, sacrifice, and enduring service of all who have worn our nation’s uniform—including many of our own members. AFSCME Council 4’s veterans exemplify what it means to serve a purpose larger than oneself. Whether in uniform or on the job as public employees, they remind us that the highest form of service is putting others first.

AFSCME members know that service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. Across Connecticut and across our union, veterans continue to lead by example—serving our communities, protecting our neighbors, and upholding the values of duty, dignity, and solidarity that define both military service and public service. Many of our veterans continue their commitment to country and community as correction officers, public works employees, custodians, maintenance workers, social service professionals, clerical staff, and countless others who make Connecticut stronger every day. Their leadership, discipline, and sense of responsibility enrich every local, every workplace, and every fight for fairness that we take on together.

AFSCME Council 4 stands proud with our veteran members today and every day. Their leadership inspires us, and their continued service reminds us that the values of solidarity and public service are deeply connected.

To all of our nation’s veterans: thank you for your courage and your service. Thank you for standing in defence of liberty and justice for all.
