Ali Truwit has been named our 2024 Chelsea Cohen Courage Award recipient. The Darien resident, just two days after graduating from Yale University in 2023 where she was a member of the women’s swim team, was attacked by a shark while snorkeling and lost her foot and part of her leg in the attack. Remarkably, in just over a year she worked to recover, learn life with a prosthetic and made Team USA for the 2024 Paralympics in swimming. Ali became a two-time Silver Medalist & two-time American Record holder in the 400-meter freestyle and the 100-meter backstroke at the Paris Paralympic Games. She also continues her work to champion disability awareness and opportunity through her foundation, strongerthanyouthink.org.

The final vote has been tabulated and here's the Class of 2024 honorees for our Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame.
The 7 new members are:
-Jackie Robinson Professional Wing - Lee Zink (Darien), Dan Orlovsky (Shelton) & Tyler Matakevich (Stratford)
- James O'Rourke Amateur Wing - the late Tom (Bo) Hickey (Stamford), Mary Anne O'Connor (Fairfield)
-J. Walter Kennedy Community Service Wing - Jeff Brameier (Darien), Ed Faulkner (Norwalk)

Here's how the Class of '24 earned their spots in the FCSHOF.

Zink, who had an 11-year professional career, is the first lacrosse player to be inducted in the FCSHOF. He joins two NFL players - one current and one former-- in Matakevich now in his 9th pro season in a second stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team that drafted him in 2016 and Orlovsky, who played 12 years as a quarterback with four different teams.

Hickey was one of Stamford's greatest all-around athletes playing 4 sports at Stamford Catholic High and then went on to a college football career at Maryland and 1 year in the NFL with the Denver Broncos. O'Connor was a standout basketball player who played on the first women's U.S. Olympic team that won a silver medal in 1976 and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a team member in 2023.

Brameier has been the Darien High boys' lacrosse coach for 41 years and his state-record 681 wins has him in the top 6 nationally all-time. Faulkner coached girls' softball and basketball at McMahon High for 30 years and racked up 609 career total wins in the two sports.

It was another great turnout for our Tim Teufel Celebrity Golf Tournament. Every year the A-list of celebrities who support the event is the highlight of the day. They gathered for a group shot prior to dinner. The Tim Teufel Celebrity Golf Tournament got off to a great start this morning at Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich. Now in its 34th year, this was the 12th year our organization was the beneficiary. In first photo, Tim (at left) greeted our longtime sponsor Steven Eisenstadt (center), who is the president and CEO of Cumberland Packing Corp, which is the company that produces Sweet 'n Low. Our annual "off-to-college" party took place recently to wish our 2024 Chelsea Cohen Memorial Scholarship recipient Jocelyn Bacila good luck as she heads off to Marist College for her freshman year. Jocelyn Bacila is the recipient of our 2024 Chelsea Cohen Memorial Scholarship. The award recognizes a female scholar/athlete who is a graduating senior from Norwalk’s high schools with financial support toward higher education. Bacila, from Norwalk High, will receive a $5,000 grant for her college freshman year this fall at Marist College.

Bacila, who will graduate with a 3.7 grade point average and has been a 4-year high honor roll designee, plans to major in Biomedical Science. Jocelyn played two years of varsity volleyball for the Bears and will continue her athletic career with the Marist club volleyball team. She was also captain of her U16 & U17 travel teams.

We officially relaunched our Hall of Fame & Youth Foundation with a ceremony at the HOF wall at Chelsea Piers CT. A reception at CP's Clubhouse Room followed. The Class of 2023 was announced, and past Hall of Famers and family members attended.

As we enter the heart of 2024, we are celebrating our 20th year as a community leader in educating our youth on the benefits of living an active, healthy lifestyle and personal development through sports. With a new name in tow, we are even more focused on continuing our support for local youth organizations that provide our children and families with vital services.

We hope you all will stand with us as we make every effort to be sure that our next generation of youngsters are healthy, happy and prepared for wherever their life journeys may take them. When we started this organization in 2005, we would have never dreamed we were going to be able to help so many in so many different ways.

$300,000 in financial support; $325,000 of in-kind donations; reaching over 90 youth organizations and thousands of young people.

Thanks to all those who helped us along the way. And please let us know how you can lend support as we are always in need of caring and generous county residents to keep us moving forward.

Our just announced Hall of Fame Class of 2023 includes 8 new honorees from 6 different communities.

The Jackie Robinson Professional Wing inductees are current Major League Baseball umpire Dan Iassogna (Shelton) and race car driver Scott Sharp (Wilton). In the James O'Rourke Amateur Wing, the late John Scalzi (Stamford), one of the city's greatest athletes, and Lynn Spagnesi (Norwalk), a multi-sport standout, are being recognized. There are 4 recipients in the J. Walter Kennedy Community Service Wing: Brakettes' softball coach John Stratton (Stratford), Darien High volleyball coach Laurie LaRusso, longtime football coach John Hagan (Stamford) and Norwalk's girls' sports pioneer Mary Kehoe.
