🇺🇸Fantastic volunteer opportunity for teens/ students :

As summer begins, we realize we have some challenges to overcome even in vibrant Westfield,NJ !

This project will be sponsored by our national charity : Homefront Hugs Foundation which has its HQ right in Westfield!

Volunteer hours?
students can accumulate many volunteer hours over time coming up with ideas and a campaign to help make our town more accessible, inclusive and welcoming for all.

This is their future too!

Our founder and CEO will personally mentor as this issue is near and dear to her heart, being a disabled Mom now and with a sister whose disABILITIES are there but unseen, a veterans and disability advocate, especially for the many children and families and veterans she works with in the area, striving to be as independent as possible as they reach for their dreams and try to live the best quality life possible. There is work to do to make this town more accessible and inclusive!

✅ Interested students can send in their letters and ideas to [email protected]
with parent permission, and can sign up with friends if they wish. Parents and teens can also text us or call us at 734-330-8203.

✅Deadline for submission of interest and ideas is : July 15, 2026 but they can start even earlier if they are ready to help!

In our 250th year of our republic, our voices still matter and this is a great for any student’s college or job application and the hours are flexible as they can work on this project wherever they are this summer!

Once a student volunteers with us 3 months or more for any amount of hours, at Homefront Hugs, we also write strong letters of reference for jobs and college when needed.

In our 25th year as we began after 9/11, we are proud of our volunteer program as our volunteers in all areas, of all ages shine….

Homefront Hugs, with its national headquarters now in Westfield,New Jersey, is the proud recipient of the National Award for Volunteerism from the Points of Light Foundation.

🇺🇸 June 14 is Flag Day. A day that honors the adoption of the American flag in 1777 and invites us to reflect on the values it represents: freedom, responsibility, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.

Flag Day is not simply about symbolism; it is about the work of citizenship. It asks us to consider what it means to stand for liberty, equality, and dignity for all people.

Dr. Maya Angelou often reminded us that patriotism is not passive; it requires courage, truth, and accountability. “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.”

To love a country is also to challenge it, to believe it can be better, fairer, and more just.

Today, we honor not only a flag, but the responsibility we share to uphold humanity, justice, and hope.

How do you practice citizenship in your daily life? ✨

During WWII, the US military was dangerously short on intelligence after decades of underfunding. The unlikely solution? Librarians. They were recruited to gather vital information from library shelves, and some were sent overseas as spies, crossing enemy lines to smuggle documents out of occupied Europe.

As libraries face shrinking budgets today, this story is a powerful reminder that they are far more than quiet reading rooms. Read the full article to discover the incredible untold story of America's librarian spies.

Our first photo ever of our little one when we began Homefront Hugs Foundation after 9/11, 25 years ago - perfect for Flag Day today.

Now he is making his late Dad, (a veteran - USAF pilot, who served 25 years before we lost him to brain cancer), and his bonus Dad, proud, as an attorney in NYC.

Our flag to us is a symbol or resilience, courage, humanity, inclusion and diversity.
