🚒 FIRE SAFETY CHALLENGE 🚒

West Wyoming Fire Department wants to put your family’s fire safety knowledge to the test tonight!

Take a few minutes at home and ask yourself and your children these important questions. You might be surprised by some of the answers:

🔥 If a fire started in your house while everyone was sleeping, what would wake you up?
🔥 Do you know TWO ways out of every room in your house?
🔥 If your bedroom door was hot, would you open it?
🔥 Once you get outside, where would your family meet?
🔥 If your favorite toy, pet, phone, or video game was still inside… would you go back in?
🔥 Do your kids know how to call 911 and tell dispatch your address?
🔥 Does everyone know to stay LOW under smoke?
🔥 If smoke filled your room, what would you do?
🔥 Have you ever actually practiced escaping your house?

Parents… now ask your kids these same questions and see how they answer. Fire safety isn’t just something to talk about after an emergency happens. It starts before one ever occurs.

A house fire can turn into a room full of smoke faster than most people realize. The safest families are the families that have a plan.

Quick Safety Tips:
✅ Every home should have working smoke detectors — especially near bedrooms. Test them regularly!
✅ We highly recommend having fire extinguishers in your home, especially near bedrooms and key areas.
✅ Keep tools ready for small emergencies: a garden hose accessible outside, and a fire blanket in the kitchen for stove fires.
✅ But ask yourself: Do you know how to use them?
✅ Do you know the Heimlich maneuver? Do you have a Dechoker tool for choking emergencies?
✅ Do you know CPR?
✅ Do your children know “Stop, Drop, and Roll”?
✅ Do your kids know how to swim? If you have a pool, is it safe and secure for them?

These are important conversations and skills that can save lives. If you don’t know the answer to some of these questions — that’s okay! Please know you can 100% reach out to us. We would love to discuss these topics with you and your children and help your family become safer and more prepared.

Comment below and let us know: How many of these questions did your family know the answer to? 👨‍🚒🏠

***Note!***this photo is not saying anyone did anything wrong. This photo is for educational purposes knowing that an emergency can happen anywhere at anytime…. Even in your own town or home! We just want everyone to be as educated as possible on this topic of fire safety.

Stay safe, West Wyoming!

Thank you to Joe Stamphle who was generous enough to operate a mini excavator for us today to help us dig the holes for these new trees!

Serbian Spruce Picea omorika
According to the IUCN, Serbian Spruce is an endangered species. These needle-leaved trees are incredible at intercepting rain, thus reducing stormwater runoff.
This species was chosen for the park due to its distinctive form, resistance to needlecast disease and year-round evergreen presence in the park. Half of the year in this area is devoid of green growth from deciduous trees. In addition, this species provides wildlife habitat and nesting sites for birds. It is adaptable to soils with poor nutrient value making fertilization unnecessary.

Bright and early this morning at 6:00 AM, community spirit was already hard at work! ☀️🇺🇸

A huge thank you to Mike Coolbaugh from the Kiwanis, Dave Granteed representing Kuharchik Construction, Wyoming Area Kiwanis, and West Wyoming Parks & Recreation, along with Ray Elias from Kingston/Forty Fort Fire Police, for volunteering their morning to adjust and repair every Hometown Hero banner throughout Wyoming and West Wyoming.

These banners proudly honor the heroes from our communities, and keeping them looking their best takes teamwork and dedication. We appreciate these volunteers taking time out of their day, before most alarm clocks even had a chance to ring, to make sure our Hometown Heroes continue to be displayed with the respect they deserve.

Thank you for helping keep our communities looking great and continuing to support those we honor.

As part of our continued efforts to bring new life and more shade to our parks, we wanted to remind everyone about our current tree planting project at Dailey Park! 🌲

We will be planting 4 new Serbian Spruce trees, with 2 trees placed near the front of the park and 2 near the baseball field. These trees may be around 6 feet tall now, but over time they will grow into beautiful additions that future generations can enjoy.

We are incredibly thankful for the support already shown by our community. The Appel family generously sponsored 2 trees, the Granteed family sponsored 1 tree, and The Eaton family sponsored the last tree!!!❤️

This is only the beginning. We plan to continue planting additional trees of different varieties throughout our parks in the future as we continue investing in new life, shade, and the beauty of our community parks. 🌳

West Wyoming Parks & Recreation has been fortunate to see so many projects come to life through the support of donations, sponsors, volunteers, and local organizations. We are incredibly grateful for the continued support from our community!

A couple of years ago, the Wyoming Rotary helped kick off our bench replacement project, and thanks to that support we are still continuing to build and add new benches throughout our parks. Seeing these improvements continue to grow has been amazing.

Recently, after having a tree expert evaluate our parks, we have started planning for the future by slowly putting new life into our parks. This includes replacing unsafe trees when needed while also planting new trees to create additional shade and improve our parks for generations to come.

Our newest project is our picnic table initiative! We have begun plans to build brand new picnic tables while also salvaging and rebuilding older tables that can still be saved. As part of this project, we are working toward having at least one wheelchair-accessible picnic table in each park so everyone has a place at the table. We also hope to create at least one child-sized picnic table in each park to make our spaces even more family friendly.

We are also always looking for great ways to help families become more active and involved in our parks. Please send us your ideas and suggestions! We want our parks to continue being places where families can make memories and spend quality time together.

This year we intend to host Movies in the Park with the Wyoming Area Kiwanis along with Family Game Nights hosted by the West Wyoming Fire Department! We are always looking for new ideas too… maybe even a Family Kickball Tournament this summer? 🥎👀

If you would like to help support these projects or sponsor a tree, bench, or picnic table, please reach out to us. Every donation helps us continue improving our community parks.

Volunteers are always welcomed and always needed! Whether you’re an individual looking to help out or a local business interested in giving back, we can use helping hands with every project.

Small projects today create a stronger community tomorrow. 🌳🪵🛠️

Every child deserves a safe, comfortable place to sleep. ❤️

Wyoming Area Kiwanis Club is partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace for our 100 Bed Build, and we’re looking for sponsors to help us make it happen.

It costs just $50 to build one bed.
That means $50 can help keep a kid from sleeping on the floor.

Whether you sponsor one bed, five beds, or more, your support will make a real difference for children right here in our community.

Please consider sponsoring a bed for our June 6th bed build. Our Venmo is -Kiwanis.
