Chester County is at a drought warning level which means we should voluntarily conserve our water use. It doesn't matter that it has rained recently. The warning is based on a scientific measurement using stream flow, soil moisture etc. There are easy changes you can make - turn off faucet when brushing teeth, only run washer with a full load, PLANT NATIVE. Let's do this!

Dry weather conditions can stress local surface and groundwater supplies. Taking steps to conserve water in our everyday lives can help protect and sustain water resources until drought conditions have passed.

Today, the PA House Environmental and Natural Resources Committee voted unanimously to approve my House Bill 426. This bill would protect pollinating insects by encouraging any new construction of a garden, lawn, or green space at a state facility to include insecticide-free native plants.

Since the 1990s, the population of monarch butterflies in North America has declined by 90%. These pollinators and others like them are vital agents within habitats and ecosystems across the state.

It is important that we do our part to protect these crucial pollinators. House Bill 426 now heads to the PA House floor for full consideration.

Did you know that the firefly is Pennsylvania’s official state insect? These beloved “lightning bugs” are a familiar sign of summer, but their numbers have been declining for decades due to habitat loss, pesticide use, and excessive nighttime lighting. The good news is that residents can help protect fireflies right in their own yards—and even participate in a nationwide firefly count organized by the Xerces Society.
