ABOUT THE YARD SALE …. Saturday July 11 and Sunday, July 12.

Donation Days are going a bit slower than anticipated. So, if you’re thinking about cleaning out or downsizing this would be a great help. Maybe those old lawyers’ bookcases you no longer need. Or a chain saw that you don’t need any longer. The options are wide open. If it was once useful to you and now is not it would be a good time to donate it. Bring your items to WBHS on Saturday, June 27 (9 to Noon); on Tuesday. June 30 (2 to 7 pm); or on Monday, July 6 (2 to 7).
If you need donations picked up, contact Scott Storke to discuss (585-755-5464). Scott has a shiny new truck and can’t wait to load it up!

We could also use donations of bottled water and insulated paper coffee cups, sugar packets and non-refrigerated coffee creamers.. Please drop them off on any Donation Day. Monetary donations toward the sale (cash or check) are always appreciated. For mailing, send to WBHS Yard Sale, Box 173, West Bloomfield NY 14585. Again, thank you!!!

TOMORROW Tuesday June 23rd 2pm to 7pm. We will gratefully accept your donations.

Roadshow at GCV&M today! Very well organized. Plenty of lines to wait but most moved rather quickly. Heard a lot of people talking of how far they had traveled. Furthest was Texas.
A fun event and much of the fun is talking with others as what they had brought and of course running into friends and associates. Of course many items were under wraps so as to keep them safe. And several very high tech filming locations. Would have never guessed based on the final view we see on tv that there is so much equipment behind the scenes.
So a very nice experience and have to say that GCV&M was a perfect host location. Hope to hear from other West Bloomfielders as to their experiences at the Antiques Roadshow

What would you think about a leisurely railroad ride from Canandaigua to Niagara Falls at a very affordable rate. And you'll get to stop in places like East Bloomfield, West Bloomfield, and Taylorsville aka Millers Corners, aka Ionia. No hassle of the speedway like thruway or the slow and clumsy routes 5&20 experience. Just a carefree trip through the mostly agricultural heartland of western NY.
Sounds too good to be true. Well it was possible back in the second half of the 19 century. If we could only experience that period again. Okay so maybe the smoke and soot from that steam locomotive might not be exactly what you had in mind. But consider the alternatives back in the mid to late 1800's. Can't even imagine how long that journey would have been by horse and buggy!
I stumbled across this late 1800's New York Railroad map. Be sure to check up the details our local area.

This signage is the fruition that began from concept some two years ago. Myself and Lorraine attended several organizational meetings that involved every town in Ontario County by the Finger Lakes Visitors Connection. There will be a scan attached which will provide the listener with a more complete description of each site.

Would you think North Bloomfield NY to be a power house of commerce in the 1800's?
So North Bloomfield is the northwest corner of the town of West Bloomfield NY. In fact it is where Ontario, Monroe. and Livingston Counties all meet one another. And probably more importantly where the sometimes mighty Honeoye Creek runs over wide shale of bedrock. A bit difficult to image now but if you were to stop on the bridge on Martin Road (not a good idea) and look southeast that is where so many mills once stood along the creek. There are apparently some trace footprints of old buildings but are now on private property. So the mills were essential back then and when the railroad comes along - the economy booms. The Gates family alone had built three homes nearby of which three still stand. And several of the Gates Family members are buried across from the homestead at the North Bloomfield Cemetery. A later but significant North Bloomfield business was the Tenny Store which still stands although as a private residence. It is located at the corner of Route 65, Martin Road and Quaker Meeting House Road.
