For nearly a decade, Kansas voters and courts have rejected attacks on abortion rights. The latest vote — and a court ruling just one day earlier — sent the same clear message: Kansans won’t back down.

For the better part of a decade, Kansas courts and voters have rejected attempts to crack down on abortion. The vote — and an abortion ruling that came down a day before — were no different.

Victory for North Carolina courts! Thank you, Governor Stein, for vetoing the dangerous HB 377.

We cannot allow an overtly partisan and political Chief Justice to have unchecked power to suspend judges and solidify control over the system. ⚖️

House Bill 377 would essentially let North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Newby suspend any trial court judge without pay. Gov. Josh Stein vetoed the bill, saying it "would have a chilling effect on judicial independence."

SCOTUS could hand Trump a major win by blocking lawsuits against his ballroom altogether — a ruling that could threaten laws protecting environmental resources, sacred lands, and historic sites nationwide.

Trump’s lawyers make arguments that, if accepted by the justices, would render a wide range of laws unenforceable.

The Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments this fall in a landmark case to determine whether local and state governments can sue fossil fuel companies for climate-related disaster costs.

The decision could set a significant precedent for states and cities trying to hold fossil fuel companies accountable for climate impacts.

Todd Blanche's confirmation has been advanced because of a performative deal on the slush fund.

His record already answers the question the full Senate now must decide: Does the attorney general answer to the president or the people?

Blanche’s nomination had been held up over concerns from GOP Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, but the parties reached a deal to end the standoff.

"The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has unanimously held that the state constitution generally requires a warrant to search privately marked land. The decision — the first state high court ruling in over three decades to reject the federal “open fields doctrine” — provides a model for sister courts that may soon weigh similar challenges."

The court unanimously rejected the federal “open fields doctrine” in favor of the state constitution’s stronger privacy protections.

Republicans are once again trying to make it harder to vote by reviving part of an Iowa law that would make it easier to reject absentee ballots over signature mismatches. This voter suppression tactic could disenfranchise eligible voters.

This is exactly why .

The RNC joined a lawsuit that could put lawfully cast absentee ballots — in potentially one of the closest races this November — in jeopardy.

"He isn’t asking the U.S. Supreme Court for permission. He’s simply using the same states’ rights power the court has spent years telling everyone that states have."

Another great example of why !

A sitting judge putting his own reputation and his court’s credibility on the line to publicly challenge the nation’s highest court is a big deal.

"At the federal level, Miranda is getting weaker. But last week’s ruling in Michigan is a reminder that state courts can still protect it." – Madiba K. Dennie

At the federal level, Miranda rights are weaker than they've been in decades. But state courts have a role to play, too.

SCOTUS dealt a blow to trans rights at the end of the term, and state courts are our next line of defense against this lawless Court.

A survey found that nearly 55% of related state cases from 2022 to 2024 had a positive impact on trans lives.

As the U.S. Supreme Court deals another blow to trans rights, a new survey finds that almost 55 percent of related state cases from 2022 to 2024 had a positive impact on trans lives.
